After spending some time i decided to do some research on Orochimaru
Lets start with hia over all characteristics
Orochimaru is one of the most sadistic villains ever created(huge props to the kishi)
I mean he has the look the voice(Japanese and English) the mannerisms
We lack a back story (I’ll give my theory in time)
Orochimaru is based off of two particular subjects
Literature — Orochimaru's name, as well as those of Jiraiya and Tsunade, come from the "The Tale of the Gallant Jiraiya"
Myth — Yamata-no-Orochi (八岐大蛇, Eight-forked Giant Snake), a giant eight-tailed, eight-headed snake killed with the Totsuka Sword by the god Susanoo-no-Mikoto, who found the Kusanagi Sword in one of its tails. This mirrors almost exactly how Itachi Uchiha using Totsuka Sword wielding Susanoo sealed Orochimaru, while in his Yamata form, and wielding the Kusanagi Sword kept inside of him. Now Taking both of those into perspective IMO Orochimaru will end the series as the final villain but that’s for later
Orochimaru Working Experiments on infants trying to prepare a body
Orochimaru’s body is weak and cant handle sage mode
Orochimaru gets his hand caught in the cookie jar
But this is the genius of Orochimaru
He knew no one in the village could Kill him
Orochimaru leaves the village
10 years before his attack on the village (English dub is only source on this)
Orochimaru returns to attack and kill the third hokage
This was organized by Danzo
Reason where was root when he was attacked where were there elites
Now Orochimaru’s connections with Danzo
We all know he worked with Danzo as he was in Root
During this time I believe he offered Danzo power to quench his own ideals to become hokage
I say this because Orochimaru never liked working under people so I now feel Orochimaru was the catalyst here
Orochimaru used the cells of of the 1st hokage to restore Danzo’s arm as well as well endow him with sharingan.
Why would Orochimaru do this. He wanted to test the extent of senju dna and the sharingan
He must have wanted to implement both into his own body Or take Danzo’s body(unlikely sence it had aged).
Now what was their deal in the assassination of Hiruzen Sarutobi
It was Sasuke.
His body and sharingan
The necessity of Sasuke changed how ever when Hiruzen sealed his arms

That brings me to this common misconception about Orochimaru
You can’t judge his fights his with the Uchiha brothers
As he was not trying to kill them at all
And in one fight he wasn't at full power

Another misconception
Kabuto surpassing him
Lets not forgot Orochimaru practically trained Kabuto and created the sound ninja 5
But heres why not even kabuto knows Orochimaru's arsenal not to mention Orochimaru where he isnt a sage can manipulate senjustu chakra
Orochimaru also has an advantage all he has to do is touch kabuto and he'd regain his power
personally i find that vs threads for these two quite stupid
Now back to his personality i feel Orochimaru became twisted in his ideology after the death of his parrents but also the death of dan and tsunades brother.
He saw what death did to people and wanted to "help" people but what started with good intentions would ultimately lead orochimaru down his path of darkness
But in recent chapters i never questioned orochimaru's resolve
but it seems things are different. Orochimaru has no knowledge of tsunade being torn apart(im sure kishi will troll us) But im sure by now Orochimaru knows of jiraiya
Is it possible He feels remorse over his best friends death
Lets look at orochimarus new body for a moment
its a direct clone of the first hokage (who was a sage)
So his body should be sturdy enough to perform sage mode
he also has wood style by same logic
So its possible Oros strength can on day rival the 1st
also just a personal opinion but anything kabuto did to himself im sure orochimaru did something similar

I feel though people under rate him without taking into account he has never Went all out in a fight
His known backstory
He was an orphan. and trained by the third hokage along with Jiraiya and tsunade. He was the monst brilliant of the three. He had a natural gift and soon became a child prodigy. As the years went by Orochimaru whitnessed death all to often. He saw what the death of Tsunade's little brother and the death of her lover did to her. Orochimaru became twisted in the head because he did not want to die. I personally feel that like jiraiya Orochimaru had feelings for tsunade. This would explain why he became the did. Orochimaru began looking into forbidden jutsu trying to look for an answer then he found it. Living corpse Reincarnation. The jutsu that would keep his youth intact.
(fun fact) The only member of the sanin that did not reject his age was Jiraiya.
Now Orochimaru's deparrture from the village
I say like sasuke and naruto they had a fight to( if so i want to see it)
Orochimaru joins the Akatsuki. Leaves because of his humiliation do to Itachi

Do you think that a man that had benn studying Forbidden jutsu for most of his adult life would lost to a 70 year old man like that.
No this proves Orochimaru was just toying with his opponent.
What better way to humiliate your sensee than by beating him with his former teachers
But I believe He used Edo tensei because like the third couldnt a decade before he couldnt bring himself to kill him
Orochimaru is one of two things

or last villain
after a few conversation with fellow nb member Foxladyland
Im leaning more torwards villain
Because Sasuke Will likely enter the battle field and fight tobi to the death because of the "twisted truth" that he told Sasuke.
Scenerio a: Sasuke wins and Orochimaru comes in to steal his body after sasuke has spent all of his chakra
scenerio b: Tobi wins. same result
scenerio c: Obito rinne tenseis the uchiha clan. Orochimaru takes madaras body
Scenerio d: Oro resurects Shisui to KA Obito into rinnetensei and he takes madara's body
