Hey guys...

So I was just thinking about Naruto's past battles with his former enemy's and such... I had previously made a thread titled "Naruto's smarts are underrated", and I was thinking more into the matter...

In the thread it seemed as though the majority of the opinions thought that though he isn't "book smart", he can be considered a genius on the battlefield (beating many other higher class ninja and other geniuses, eg. Neji).

He has the ability to pinpoint an enemy's weakness and either use against them, or outsmart them for a splitsecond in order to get the upper hand

Now I'll say that he is the "number one knucklehead ninja" but in my opinion he usually acts, then thinks, then acts again based on his first action.

My question to you is... considering the hype of the intelligence of his father Minato, do you think he is a natural on the battlefield? and if so... do you believe that it is a trait that he picked up from his genius dad, or that he just gets lucky?

Yes. He has inherited a lot of skill from Minato, he's actually more of a genius than he thinks! ^_^

He used to be an idiot - you can see how he was when he trained in with kakashi the first time.
But he's learnt from his mistakes and instead of rushing into battle he's learnt to keep a close eye on the situation and produce a solution from that.

Basically, he's not that much of a knucklehead anymore :p

Naruto may look like an idiot, act like an idiot but when it comes to the crunch time and everyone starts panicking that is when Naruto uses his smarts that nobody else but Shikamaru has, which is the ability to carefully assess a situation and come up with a strategy to secure victory.

So I disagree about the idea of him inheriting his father's wit. In fact I would say in battle strategy he leans more to the Shikamaru side, that is why he is smart.

Not to mention he has matured since that first training exercise with Kakashi. He's not that dumb scrawny kid anymore, hell, he is in the top 5 of the strongest characters, I can't believe that someone can get there with inherited wit or luck, as Rock Lee says: he makes his own luck.

yeah, like I was saying, I think he has learned from acting before he thinks.... but at least acting first helps him get a better idea of how his opponent works... Like in both the Neji and Kiba fight, after rushing straight in and taking a beating, both times he says "big deal, I just wanted to see what I'm working with" or something like that lol

Interesting, but in that sense, isn't most of it pretty much strategically counter acting if you are smart... I mean Minato does that same thing while fighting Tobi... He simply goes in for the first attack... misses, figures out why based on a logical hypothesis, and goes in again

Good points but also he learns from his clones which also help him gain experience on the battlefield thanks to Kakshi's training tips.So in a sense he is smarter then before and still gains wisdom on the battlefield like his father.

I think his battle with the Third Raikage proves that he is a genius in battle. Maybe not a genius in other regards, but in battle, it doesn't get much better.
