Even Itachi admits Kisame is just a simple thug, so i'm pretty sure some genjutsu was involved, can't really say to what extent yet. But basically, what sold Kisame was the fact that Tobito promised him clarity in his world so he wouldn't need to be confused or some weird shit like i don't know. Kisame is a gay fish

And when Obito said he was Madara, he didn't believe him and said that he was long dead so I don't think Kisame ever met the real Madara
