kishi clearly did not intend for itachi to go good until later in the series where it was too late to really 'fix' his character.

This is exactly what I think some times. I think kishi screwed himself a lot in the first naruto so he had to ass pull and hoped no one would notice. It's like the same thing with hiruzen. It's clear kishi wanted hiruzen to be possibly the most powerful hokages, but with all his flashy explosions, he had to up the anti on madara v hashi accidently making everyone else fodder.

I know and understand. But did he not think sasuke wouldn't seek him out. And also why tsukuyomi him again. Itachis decisions are horrible. As smart as he is you would think he'd make better choices.
What else do you think he shouldve done? His decisions werent the best but what can he do? Ask for help? He was made out to be a villain so I doubt anyone good would try to help him and he cant exactly reveal the truth to anyone otherwise they wouldve despised the uchiha more and he would jeopardize sasukes life in the leaf.. Itachi isnt perfect no one is... no matter what you guys say he will always be a good guy and a hero since thats what Kishi trying to show us in the manga even if his actions were bad...

Itachi said allot of things to sasuke that weren't true, like his reasons for killing the clan, how he stated that Sasuke wasn't worth killing.

Itachi said all of those things so that sasuke would hate him, and one day seek him out... Itachi wanted Sasuke to have power because he knew one day that Obito would probably come for him, which is why he planned the Amaterasu to active when it saw a sharingan.

Even in his death bed he lied to sasuke. He didn't want sasuke to know the truth about Itachi's reasoning for destroying the clan, because Sasuke treasured his clan and itachi never wanted Sasuke to see the true face of the Uchiha. He never wanted sasuke to blame the leaf for his actions, and hoped that one day sasuke may return to the village a hero for killing Itachi (The mass murderer).

However, despite all his precautions and actions, the thing he dreaded the most happened. Which is truly sad!!

Best response really. However, Would you not agree that his second tsukuyomi was at least not even warranted. Even without obito telling sasuke the 'truth', Sasuke would not have returned to the leaf. He was already too consumed by darkness. He severed every single tie he had. He didn't even care about taka. They were tools to him just to kill itachi. After itachi's death, sasuke was his most lost. Couldn't really return to konoha since he was a wanted missing nin, but then tobi gave him a new goal in life - Kill danzo, crush the leaf.

I think, if itachi had just talked to sasuke like he said, it'd have been much better.
But even going by how he was first portrayed. He could've told sasuke "You are getting stronger, but you have a long way to go if you want to ever kill me. You are still not even worth killing", instead of calling sasuke a weakling and showing his mother and father drenched with his beloved brother in blood. As far as we know, sasuke probably got past those traumatic thoughts and was just trying to get stronger to kill itachi. He could've achieved that. Sasuke did go through some tremendous growth in team 7. Orochimaru just clouded his senses with a cursed seal which gave great power for great drawback. Anyway, that's my 2 cents, but maybe his plan could have worked if not for tobi... Too bad tobi was being a sneaky fox hahaha

I agree to an extent yes, although Itachi stated himself that he failed. He still believed that he was ready to go back to the leaf, because sasukes main goal was purely to take Itachi out.

He hadn't really commit any big time offensives until he attacked killer bee, which was after he killed his brother.

He did it because hate fuels the sharingan,as tobirama explained. So if he hated Itachi even more he would awaken even greater powers, like the MS....

Well this... Uchihas and their love/hate pain of loss is their greatest and most fearsome power.

But to be on topic, he didn't go at it the right way (his ways were just borderline psycho/sadist), hence the reason why he even admitted that he FAILED.

He could have sought assistance and put faith in other people instead of putting it all on himself. Hell, even Sasuke could have persuaded his Father to not go with the "coup".
