Hello NB. Occasionally, in General Discussion, I'll post some, thought-provoking articles/topics/etc. Frankly, many people are ignorant. And I don't mean that in any insulting way, but rather by the definition: many people lack information, and in this case, of things that are eternally important. However, just coming out and spouting information rarely goes well. So, instead, I decided that on a weekly-(give or take some days)-basis, I'll post one of these threads here. The topics will vary, but will always be interesting. I have also decided that each thread will not be from me, but entirely posted from another source, with credit given to the source at the end of this post. And then of course we can discuss it in the thread.
It should be known that I am a Christian.
I'm asking that we discuss the topics sensibly and in a mature fashion. It would be greatly appreciated if you would actually read the that which is posted and appropriately respond, instead of just flaming. Thank you.

The atheist frequently attempts to convince himself that he has a totally "scientific" and rational outlook on life. "I deal in facts," he claims, "and you religionists deal only in faith." Such is not an accurate assessment of the situation, for there are many things one must believe (and without any kind of reasonable evidence) in order to subscribe to atheism. Note the following:

1. To be an atheist, one must believe that God does not exist. The atheist cannot logically say, "I know that there is no God," for then he would have to know everything. If he admits that there is anything he does not know, it just might be the fact that "God is."
2. The atheist must either believe that matter is eternal (and the evidence against this), or he must believe that matter was its own creator. Two fundamental laws of science contradict these beliefs - the First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics. The First Law indicates matter cannot create itself, and the Second Law suggests that matter is not eternal.
3. Contrary to the law of Biogenesis (life comes only from life, and that of its kind), atheists believe that life was spontaneously generated.
4. Atheists believe that order and design in nature are the results of non-intelligent accidents.
5. Atheists believe that the non-conscious evolved the conscious, and the non-moral evolved the moral.

These points could be amplified many times over, but this is sufficient to explode the notion that atheism operates solely on fact, leaving "faith" to religionists. One who takes the time and effort to investigate such a chrage will quickly find that it is far from the truth of the matter.

You have a point but having discussions on a forum is not the right way to change atheist!!! Ghandi said once I like your Christ I don't like your Christian!!! If You are a christian you shouldnt try to prove them wrong!!! A christian is supposed to act like Jesus Christ not be him that means you should stop tryin to SHOW-UP atheist and give them love and attention that they need!!!

I am an atheist & when I say I don't belive in a god it is because the thought of any form of deity is primitive. I am still confused as to why people still believe in such things ridiculous in my opinion.

Okay. So you are a Christian. You believe in one god. And you don't believe in thousands of other gods. So I'm an atheist, that means I believe in only one less god than you.
Also, something is either true or not. Nothing supports the idea of god so why would I believe it's true?
You can call atheism a system of beliefs, but actually it's just the antithesis of your faith...Ergo an antithesis of a belief is just an 'antibelief' at most...
Where has your god been until monotheism appeared in history?
And actually entropy also suggests that there is no god so then it's a stalemate.

You overlooked and simplified some other rules and laws of physic that make the scientific "creation of life" logical and believable.
Science is based a lot on faith,just another kind of faith religion is based upon.
Science begins with the faith that an idea that seems logical in someone's mind can be proved in real life.It's the development from an idea to reality,that it's the same under any circumstances.Science is the result of faith that managed to become evidence through many research,trials and demonstrations in the everyday,material world.
For some people is easier to have that kind of faith,rather to blindly believe in an higher power that makes the world go round.
Both opinions are respected.

Atheist is a term like monotheist or polytheist not a religion. Evolution IS a religion. It's pope is Darwin. It's priests are evolutionary scientists. Its "good book" is The Origin of Species. Its cathedrals are Natural History museums. Its miracle worker is Time. It is nothing more than a pagan attempt to explain where everything came from, why it's here, and where it's headed, under the guise of "science," which it is NOT. No scientists ever observed the universe appear from nowhere and make everything by itself. It's all story telling and magic wand waving.

Every single person on this planet is an atheist of some sort.
The definiton of atheism, when applied to religion in general and not narrowed down to solely Judeo-Christian beliefs, applies to you too.
You don't believe in Osiris, Goktanri, Aytanri or Zeus. Atheists just add the Judeo-Christian deity to the list of beings they don't believe in.

Besides, have any of you heard about the burden of proof?
The burden of proof lies with the one making the claim. Which means that believers must put forth concrete evidence that their God exists, not the other way around.

I can claim that there's a little fairy in my shoe that can't be sensed by any means. It created the universe and modeled every single being as it wished. If you don't believe in it, you'll eternally be poked by unicorn horns covered in Bengay till eternity after you die. Oh, by the way, it talked to me and I'm the Messiah, but it won't speak ever again.
Now, prove to me that the fairy doesn't exist.

Could I get my point across?
