Whenever the next World War takes place, how do you think wbesites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, MySpace, Google Plus+, DevianArt, LiveJournal, Tagged, Orkut, CafeMom, Ning, Meetup, myLife, Multiply, etc. cope with a world war? And not just those sort of websites, but really any that serve world-wide/cross-continent, especially those that have the people interact with one another. How would they respond? Would the government step in? What do you think would happen?

all countries will most likely shut the sites down, or block the internet signal.

This is a brilliant question, never even occurred to me before- it's weird how little things could affect a war :')

One wars aren't fought that way. An EMP is never going to happen. No army has ever been set out to destroy countries just conquer or topple governments and enforce its own political beliefs and interests. Im in Psy Op here at Bragg. Our job is to influence both military and civilians. We try to get military to surrender out of fear. We try to get civilians to stay passive and help us by appealing to their issues with the enemy forces. The best way to do that is to use mass media. We broadcast to our target on radio, tv, and a few other mediums. The most famous was of course the pamphlets back in Desert Storm but nowadays we focus on other means to influence. We operate on every social media website. We can take over your tv and radio. We can do other things i can't say. Most of America gets its political opinion from the news. We are the military side of that and they would never hinder our ability to confuse and subvert the enemy. Rush Limbough, Wolf Blitzer, etc. All masters of my craft. Not to mention all the intelligence you can gather just by watching the locals flame.

This is a brilliant question, never even occurred to me before- it's weird how little things could affect a war :')

Its weird how we turn every day things into weapons.

More fake videos and news and a lot of misinformation and rumours leading to unnecessary panic among the public and creating more problems. Already happened more than once.

You hang out at a manga forum- haven't you already noticed how people make theories with wishful thinking and after two-three threads on it, they start to present it as a fact.

And this would be a ..... "Versus" discussion. :|

People will just debate on who'll win, just like politics

Actually, no, none of what people of said...well in my opinion.
But all countries would use nuclear bombs, there would only be limited time to think out a plan, so casualties in other countians won't matter to the likes of: USA, N.Korea, U.K, China, Canada, Germany, etc. We'd all die. Every single one of us, and I'd we don't die of the bombs, then we'll die of the pollution and lack of resources.

There will be a little bit of everything.

Social networks, however, will play a huge part in any overt war between information-age nations. Specifically, I think social networks make the world feel smaller and more connected - thus, it takes issues of greater substance to force us to war with each other than it did in the past (where relative cultural isolation made it easier to play the 'them vs us' game).

That said - when there are wars, they will be even more fierce - as they will be largely driven by idological divides as opposed to political, economic, and other physical resource factors.

The big one coming up is the push for globalization versus the preservation of national identity. While seemingly political - it is very ideological in nature with regards to how governments should behave and as to how much authority a self-proclaimed sovereign entity actually has.

They'd probably say America is evil and they should just leave nk/sk alone. Idiots on the internet know nothing when it comes to the politics of war. Plus I think if the military is totally mobilized, Obama will try to take over the home front while the military isnt there to protect us...but that's just me and my fears.
