I'd have to disagree! This connection was rather obvious, but unlike Sasuke who is a children driven off emotion. Orochimaru is long beyond that, his emotion ties (sadness) had long diminished.
His tears represented actually what he said. In that situation, Orochimaru not only was trying to destroy him home, but the only parent he really knew his entire life and tried to harm him beyond belief. Orochimaru's ties with the leaf were gone at that moment in his life. This is why Orochimaru addressed Sasuke as still being a child who didn't need to know everything, as an adult he know his position and role.
