Base on the latest chapter, a lot of people are wondering how Madara has gone from Idealist looking for peace to bringer of death to the shinobi world. Most explanations relate to Hashi killing Izana or somehow causing his death in the future. It would make sense since Hashi is viewed as Madara’s rival.
I think the real reason behind Madara turning evil lies in his other rival: his brother Izuna.
Now here me out on this, my explanation lies in:
2 things we learn about Madara from chapters 621 & 623.
And in 1 key thing we learn about Izuna in chapter 623 that not many have commented on yet.(Explained below).
What I notice about young Madara is not his ideals & wanting peace. What I see about Madara in the 2 links is:
1. He is very competitive. He cannot stand that Hashi can throw a stone to the other side while he can't.
2. He is “very proud of his eyes”, as Hashi puts it.
Take a look at the last page of chapter 623:
We are introduced to Tajima & Little Izuna. I think it’s safe to say that between Madara and Izuna, Izuna has a stronger relationship with their father. Madara’s relationship with his father is also foreshadowed by the parallels made with Hashi and his father, where Tobirama seems to have the closer relationship with their dad. The difference in views/ideals between these older sons (Madara and Hashi) with their respective fathers causes a rift in those relationships.
But Madara does have one advantage over Izuna, which does get him some of father’s attention. It’s his eyes. I think this is what Kishi is telling us through Hashi’s comment “You are proud of your eyes,” is that Madara has recently awakened sharingan, and this makes him very proud of himself because it grants him his father’s approval.
Now, take a closer look at the last page of chapter 623, Izuna is about to face his clans greatest rival the Senju, and he doesn’t even activate his sharingan for this battle? I believe it’s because Izuna does not have the Sharingan yet. Side Note: It’s a little blurry, but you can kind of make out that Tajima’s eye is not circular like Izuna’s. I believe Tajima has his sharingan activated.
The point I am making is that Madara sees himself as special compared to Izuna right now. But this will change once Izuna activates his Sharingan (possibly during intense battle with Tobirama, he may awaken it).
Once Izuna awakens his sharingan, Madara is not going to be special. Madara is very competitive. And this I think will lead to Izuna’s death in the future. Madara, once his eyes go blind, will kill Izuna for his eyes.
I know this will bring up an old argument. To those who are going to say no, Izuna willingly gave his eyes to Madara and died later, I say this to you:
Consider the source of the information: Tobi aka Madara, aka Obito; A man who has lied about his identity x2, and who told this story (giving up eyes willingly) as means to turn Susuke against Konoha. This is a convenient story to tell someone who just killed his brother, and whose eyes are waiting to be transplanted.
Consider Obito’s source of information: Most likely Madara himself. Madara tells Obito about the great sacrifice his younger brother made by giving him his eyes. This story is a means to turn Obito against Konoha. This is a convenient story to tell someone whose body is half crushed and has recently given one of his eyes to his best friend.
This story is a lie to cover up the truth.
In Short, Madara’s other rival was Izuna, the younger brother who was daddy’s little boy. Once Madara’s went blind, the old jealously from childhood came out and caused Madara to take Izuna's eyes, and in the process kill him. That is when the story was created about Izuna's willing sacrifice.
Which leads to:
The reason the Uchiha clan sided with Hashi as Hokage, is not that he was better per say, but because the Uchiha Clan did not fully believe Izuna gave his eyes to Madara. There were rumors Madara took his younger brother eyes.
