What Is The Point Of Chidori?

If the same speed was applied to somebody using a kunai or something, it would get the exact same job done.

When Sasuke did this, I couldn't help but think that a kunai could have done the exact same job without wasting chakra and having your hand stuck through someone's lung.

Now, I will say it has one benefit:

When facinf ultimate defenses like Gaara's, chidori makes sense; you need the extra power to penetrate the defenses and get to the enemy. But honestly, how often would someone find themselves against a defense like that?

Chidori does more damage to a person, it has more piercing power and it comes with the pain of being shocked and having lightning pierce through a person's body. I think it also numbs the body since Yamato mentioned something about it but that one I'm not sure on. And it also is great against defenses like Gaara's as you mentioned before.

The point of chidori is the same as any other ninja that has a strong high level jutsu, to beat their opponent. Not one ninja in Narutoverse (apart from Naruto lol with the rasengan) uses their most powerful jutsu's all the time ya know

The user's speed and force would increase to another level than a normal kunai of course. Well, Chidori can stop opponents movement from escaping or hiding, but u need speed to hit someone or grab someone, and Chidori has speed, so yeah.
