How are Asians so good at math?

for female's if you don't have a boyfriend/husband - you will live with your mom and dad even if your in your early 30's ... that what kind of discipline we're talking about. Not to mention be home by 10pm... and it's normal for them... they don't understand when I tell them I used to come home drunk at 3 am while i was 16 yo....

well everyone has got a field in which they are intrested.. my maths is also gud..its nt that everyone got a strong maths. well u may say its inborn or sumthing but one thing my maths teacher believed is that pactice makes a man perfect.

no they are disciplened to study and commit their time to school. They arent lazy unlike many american kids, and many of their teachers, actually know how to do the math. I have had several teachers, that never knew any of the subject, they just taught what the textbook told them. IT was fun in computer class, because i would get weeks ahead of the teacher, and i just played game or did other class homework. I even brougt my xbox 360 in, and played games on it. And i learned the subject. (it was a html web design class)

Simply their parents discipline them, the kids stay focused, and study a crap ton, and the teachers know what they are talking about.
(it is mostly the disciplin thing though)

Asian countries focus on maths and sciences more than arts or other activities.In many schools studing maths is mandatory till highschool.Many institutes take only mathematics as a subject or as a part in their entrance exams thats y it becomes necessary for the student to excel in Maths.

wel started going 2 school at 3.5 years.
maths was from kg standard.algebra came at age 8,trignmet. at 10,geometry at 10,sets at 13,calculus at 14 and ****ed ma life....now i'm 17 and really good at certain topic and really suck at some but to get good education after class 12 i've to score above 90 % in board exams means getting 90+ marks in eng.,maths,chem.,physics,computer so yeah we are bound to be good at it or the ****ing education sys. Will fuq our life...

Its the way they are taught. Although most Asians seem very good at math, its the teachings that really help them. I don't thing you can be born with high level math skills. And there work ethic

Anyway, being an Asian myself, some of the comments mentioned are right. Education is regarded with high importance and is something emphasised on from the day you were born. The simple reason for us being good at maths is just because we do so much work that we get better at it through practice. Not that i agree the statement that Asians are generally better at maths, there are millions of Western people who are good at maths and there are millions of Asians who suck at maths.

I saw a comment stating Asians to be more socially awkward as they grow up due to the hours spent studying instead of undergoing social interaction and it cracked me up. It's probably true at times, but it's kinda stereotypical. Hahahaha, i guess its just about getting the balance in life. Between both studies and social life.

HARD-WORK!

Most Asians are brought up well disciplined, respect their teachers and work hard! It's been carried down the line of eastern culture.

Now us with the dominantly Western culture had that many years ago, but somehow down our line it faded, kids drop out of school easier, no one cares to study so hard because they much prefer to play Xbox, watch TV or read manga on a Wednesday (yes I'm talking to you ). Kids don't respect the teachers like they do in Asia, kids don't respect their parents anymore, hell parent don't even know how to bring up their children anymore.

On a side note: In the East Asian countries they promote puzzles such as the rubric cube, sudoku, chess etc. a lot more to the young kids, these kinds of puzzles develops the human mind and your brain calculates at a much faster rate through all the many hours of "exercise".
