[Discussion] BEWARE!! Craigslist/Gumtree users

There is a fraud who has scammed hundreds of people and almost got to me! He wanted to purchase my 2010 Nissan Maxima so he sent the following email:

Thanks for the swift response...I am willing to know the lowest price of
it.due to the nature of my job and location...i will not be able to come
for inspection,am a very busy type as i work long hours
everyday,i have gone through your advertisement and i am satisfied with
it.As for the payment..i will be paying you via the fastest and secure
way to pay online(PayPal).I have a private courier agent that will come for
the pick up after the payment have been made ...so no shipping included.
You can now send me your PayPal email so i can pay in right away and also
include your address in your reply.If you don't have a paypal
account,you can easily set up one...log on to

I clicked on the link as I needed a new paypal account and I found out it was a clever but fake paypal site. Anyway, I went ahead and filtered all the numerous IP Address's he was using and finally traced him back to his original location.I reported him to a friend I have who works in IC3 (Internet FBI) and told me they are sending a police who is associated with IC3 that lives in his country and now PayPal can sue him for Business theft and I'm glad to hear that he's going to court for a prison sentence of 18 months

He had other accounts as well and if you want I can list them in case he's active again. Hope this may help you

I usually don't get pleasure from causing bad things to others but this low life deserved it. He probably made thousands from scamming those poor people

BTW 18 months is too short, some might have lost their entire livelihood for that scam .... hope that prison have a lot of horny inmates... they would teach him a lesson.

Yeah 18 months is short but who knows how things work where he's from... I myself worked my a$$ off to buy that car while paying rent & uni fees. I hope he drops the soap

Yeah I really hate those fake sites , like those guys you randomly add on twitter they send you fake Facebook logins and keep the information for more serious things like your emails password to access things such as you credit card....
But to be honest he should have gotten at least 2 and a half years....

I know exactly what you mean! And those youtube comments on songs that say "Look at naked pics of my GF on this site" I hate them so much! I would prefer a thousand trolls in a room with me than a constant spammer on the internet

This seriously almost happened to me too. I was selling my Smartphone on craigslist and someone texted me a good price for my phone so I was happy. I couldn't even tell if it was a fake pay pal website. I was going to ship the phone to Nigeria but luckily a lady that worked at the post office told me about how people in Nigeria would scam people. After that I didn't ship my $500 smartphone and went home to do some research and yes people in NIgeria do scam people.
