Been reading Naruto since it first came out in the U.S.

I am preparing another thread based on the latest chapter, but in the middle of it, the below thought occurred to me. And I wanted some help on it because I don’t remember it being directly stated in the manga directly.

As we know from part 1 of Naruto, The Hyuga clan has the Main House & the Branch House, and along with it the curse seal that is put on the branch House.

Hiashi (Hinata’s dad) and Hizashi (Neji’s dad) are twins. But because Hiashi was born first, he inherited the privilege of being part of the main family while Hizashi became a branch member.

Here's the story form the manga:

Hinata is the heir of the Main House, this is stated as such in the manga.

My question is this:If the Hyuga’s are still following the above tradition and I understand it correctly:

Does this mean that Hinata’s younger sister Hanabi, is a branch family member and has/will have the curse seal placed on her? I have not seen any direct reference in the manga to this either way.

Or is it that Hinata and Hanabi are both Main family members and their children will then be divided into Main and Branch when the next heir turns 3 years old? If this is the case, why were Hiashi and Hizashi divided into Main and Branch?

My belief/understanding currently, is that all families/every generation in the Hyuga clan are divided into Main and Branch houses, so Hanabi (Hinata’s sister) should be a branch house member.

Is this correct? If not can anyone explain in detail.

Thanks for the help clearing this up.

That's actually a very good question...In all honesty, I don't know, but I must say that I doubt she'll be marked, since it'd probably have been done already.

And this is why I ask these quetions. I have a discussion i wish to make on the relationship of siblings in the manga, but this point is kind of critical and there is no clear staements made in the manga.

*Spoiler for those who have not read latest 50 chapters*

Neji could have changed everything going forward after his fight with Naruto, but it did not/can not change the past. if you notice in the chapter that he died, the curse seal was on his forhead still, released by his death. Hanabi was born before the fight Neji had with Naruto so she would have been affected by the old tradition.

I want to confirm this before realeasing my next thread.

I've thought about this as well. I've always wondered how there could be much of a main house if only the first borns of the main house were allowed to be part of it.
A possible explanation could be that maybe every other generation of children born into the main house faces the possibility of being branded with the seal and put in the branch house, depending on birth order or skill. This would insure that there are actually members in the main house.
I doubt this is correct, but it is a possibility.

It may not make sense why I am asking this, but it is important to the bigger theory I wish to make on Madara and his younger brother.

I think because they are twins that the one born first's was the name as the next head of the family. Hinata and Hanabi case is different as they are years apart....and the next head to the Hyuga Main Branch is Hanabi not Hinata....

Where in the manga does it state either of these things?

Neji says those born first become members of the Main family. Neji also states Hinata is the Heir, in no place does the manga say Hanabi has replaced her. The Manga does state through the father, that he feels Hinata is not worthy to be heir. This does not mean Hinata has lost her birth right.
