I was just watching Hunter x Hunter, i’ve had the series for quite a long time, I’ve been keeping the weekly episode saved in my hdd and i started to watch it three days ago. The thing is i couldn’t help noticing a lot of similarities with another very important animes such as Naruto, in the first place, and then Bleach and One Piece. Here are the interesting facts about that subject:
1- Gon, the main character, is as stoppard as Naruto or Luffy, and very talented as well but he doesn’t seem to be aware of how special he is. He also has quite a difficult time understanding basic stuff!
2- Gon has a friend named Killua, almost a copy of Sasuke, he even dominates electricity and is very talented too. He belongs to a clan too, has a weird family and was trained in the killing arts since childhood. Atop of it all, he has a love/hate relationship with his older brother.
3- They use something called ‘Nen’, similar to chakra, and every Nen user has a different speciality. There’s also a test to know wich kind of Nen you have. A leaf and a glass of water...somehow similar to the chakra sensitive paper from narutoverse.
4- There’s an evil organization (of course!) but the main issue is they’re organized by their numbers inside a spider tattoo on their backs. Extremely similar to the ‘Espadas’ from Bleach. The only differences are that the ‘spiders’ ain’t organized according to their strenght.
5- The way the story itself is been told, it’s divided in ‘mini-arcs’ or adventures, like the One Piece way. A very catchy and intelligent move by the creators of Hunter...
6- He’s also looking for his father. And mother. Japs have a thing for family issues....
7- And finally, they included another ‘mini-arc’: last episode i watched was 61 and Gon and Killua entered inside a virtual world, an RPG-like game, and if you die inside it you die in the real world too. Have any of you watched Sword Art Online?
Don’t get me wrong on this, i think Hunter x Hunter is an awesome anime, an excellent drawing work and has well developed characters, but they got their main succes hooks from other famous animes. It’s a very common plan in the anime world, but the creator of ‘Hunter... was very clever. Have any of you noticed another interesting details?
