@bold 2 all Luffy did was to punch him once.. BB doesn't seem like the type who likes to dodge, but he owned Luffy afterwards.. too bad Jinbe stopped the fight there..
Ace was at a disadvantage in a few ways during that fight. The Yami yami no mi is a great counter to logia. This is especially true if you catch them off guard when they think they won't get hurt. Also, if Ace wanted to kill BB right off the bat and not wanted to gather information as to why he killed Thatch, he had many times to do it when BB was rolling on the floor trying to put out the fire.
That fight could be compared to Skypiea Luffy vs Enel. Enel could take on opponents that would Give Luffy a decent fight Post skip, and yet, he lost to a MUCH weaker version of Luffy. BB was a match for Ace because he had an advantage. Put that version of BB vs Zoro pre skip and Zoro would wreck him. BB has no advantage over a sword fighter with his fruit. Even his gravity pulling ability would be a bad idea. The last thing you want is to have a swordsman in close combat with you and you have just your fists. Even with all of that, Zoro pre skip is no match for Ace. Zoro > BB > Ace > Zoro. All about match ups. Basically what I'm getting at is BB would not be considered on Ace's level if he did not have that advantage.
This is why the fight with Luffy and BB was important. They both got 1 hit off of each other. It really wasn't BB owning Luffy. They were both surprise attacks. There is a difference however on how it happened. Luffy caught BB by surprise by being way too fast. BB caught Luffy by surprise with his DF ability, then slammed him into the ground. Luffy wouldn't let him be caught after knowing that, and Luffy could blitz BB easily so he would never be able to catch him again. It is to bad Jimbe did stop them huh.
The fact is BB is about equal to Luffy with just the Yami Yami. He also could not keep up with Luffy in gear 2nd. BB won against ace because of the advantages I mentioned earlier. Note how it travels in a straight line. Pretty easy to dodge, although we don't know how fast it is. Given a further distance, it would make it much easier to dodge. At the same time, if the SH's are too close, they could easily hit BB before he could even get off a punch.
The distance won't really matter actually since BB won't be able to use his DF in the first place. If all the Sh's were to attack BB at the same time, which attack would get there first. I'll answer my own question to save time. Robin. She can bloom flower hands on BB and use them to restrain BB from turning sideways(because if they are facing each other BB's quake would go sideways and not straight in front of him) before he can prep his fist to hit the air. Being restrained for even a moment will be enough time for a Red Hawk/360 Pound Cannon/Diable Jambe/ Radial Beam/ random lightning bolt/Usopp Plant/ Blizzard Slice to hit. Sorry Chopper, you are the slowest attacker. Chopper needs range attacks/fast moving attacks. Now imagine all of them hitting at once. BB was in pain from just one of Ace's attacks. Imagine the power of what the Post Time Skip Straw Hat Pirates can do.
