[Discussion] Ichigo, not a shinigami

Me, along with most people were confused when Isshin said that Ichigo wasn't a shinigami. I think I might know what he meant.

If you've read through the manga, you'll see that the arrancar have still referred to themselves as hollows now and again. They are basically hollows with shinigami powers. It's the same with the vizards, having hollow powers while the core of their soul is still that of a shinigami. Esesntially, having shinigami powers doesn't make an arrancar a shinigami; vice versa for the visard.

So Ichigo, who was born as human/quincy, cannot truly be a shinigami. But he can still have shinigami powers.

This also come into question. A hollow that gains shinigami powers, is called an arrancar. Shinigami who gain hollow abilities are called vizards. so what do you call a quincy who has shinigami powers?

I think what his father meant was that he's not JUST a shinigami...

Maybe a good way to think of it; say you're half English and half Spanish, if someone asked you, you'd say you're half English and half Spanish... and not just English or Spanish.

ichigo isn't a vizard anymore he lost that ability when he lost his powers originally. so he was just a shinigami when his bankai was broken
