When Jiraiya fought the 6 paths of pain (which is arguably the best fight in all of naruto), Jiraiya made the observation that each path of pain was someone that Jiraya had fought.

Why is this? I understand that its symbolic, but i doubt that Nagato was preparing for a giant face off with Jiraiya. Firsly, he had to ask Konan if it appeared that Jiraiya was on their side or not. Second, Nagato doesn't care about symbolism, he would have let Konan kill Jiraiya if she had the ability

So why then did Nagato seek out 6 shinobi that Jiraiya had defeated? Moreover, It appears that Nagato started using the pains many years ago. So why then did the Rain ninja who transport the bodies say that they had been at it so long that they could tell what kind gender the bodies were from their weight. Assuming Nagato has been using the same paths of pain for some time (which would make sense considering they had all fought Jiraiya, and Nagato hadn't encountered Jiraiya in decades), then what were all of those bodies that he was collecting for?

my opinion is that he can collect small intel from them, OR he is one of those guys that has opsession with his sensie that he collects the people he fought to fight with when the day of fighting j-man comes.

good ?, i have also thought about this and the only explanation i could come up with was Jiriaya only fought the Best of The Best top notch Ninjas and as far as the multible bodys coming in i assume it took a while to find the best ones (on the other hand when we see the flashback of Pain killing the Salamander Guy Pain still has the same 6pack crew ??)

maybe just to confirm that they all had to be dead. good question though. and indeed that fight might have been the best in the whole series!

He could have been obssesed with what Jiraya was doing. The other bodies might have been him trying to find even better ninjas to be his supporting 5 bodies (he wouldn't get rid of Yahiko's body) and as stated above, Jiraya only fought top notch ninjas. Although the fight with Hanzo could have just been the fact that the artist wanted those six to be known as the six paths. Putting other randoms would confuse the reader. My only thing is why didn't he make Hanzou one of the Six Paths?

Oh and just for the record, to those people who think that Tobi's Jinchurikis paths can regenerate after taking damage, they can't, they're not edo tenseis. They're paths. That means that each attack they did took Tobi's own chakra. Thats why he didn't use any rinnegan abilities (they sap chakra). He chose jinchurikis so that he could use the tailed beasts chakras rather than his own. Agree?

PLOT!!! straight plot. If that didint happen he would have never figured out that they were dead bodies thus leading to Pein never beind defeated which would have ended the show

well I never knew that Jiraya really fought and defeated them.He just met them in his journey and they were affiliated to him in some or the other way .It was just a mere co incidence dear that Jiraya met them. And I dont think Nagato had even thought of having a face off with his own teacher.

He keeps spare pains around. You'd think he'd make spare pains after naruto killed them, but still during the fight, so naruto would eventualy be owned utterly.
