Are Obito and Madara REALLY The Bad Guys?

Ultimately, they both just want peace. They just have a different way of going about it, very Matrix-Esque. So neither of them are "evil" or "bad" I think.

It depends do you consider sociopaths bad? Or do you consider them sick? Misunderstood? most of akatsuki was filled with a sociopath. Even those that desired peace i.e Kisame, pain, obito. Is it bad to harm others because of your beliefs? Yes.

Honestly, I've always questioned general belief in "bad" and "good." Everyone has their own set of morals and opinions, so what's bad to one person might not be to another.
What determines "bad" and "good" in the real world is society and the laws established by it. Technically, "bad" is only something that's generally not accepted by the whole of society.
*Not to say that me, myself, and I and my set of morals don't think that something like murder is "bad," because I do think that murder is "bad." But really it's just something that goes against my moral standards, you see? Anyway, this is getting off topic really fast.

Nah, they're really not. The thing that I like about this manga so much is that no one is truly that evil. Everyone is acting out of what they define as justice, everyone is acting to what they think of right. Just like in real life, people have so many different perspectives of just about everything. I don't think Madara and Obito are bad guys at all, just extremely misguided and a tad childish for trying to get rid of their problems by making a dream world, but hey, they make a great plot and characters so you gotta love them.

So their solution is to create a fictious world and live with illusions of their dead loved ones. Thats just disgusting, its insulting to their loved ones that they are settling for illusions of them. And they are running away from reality, that makes them cowards in my books.

Anyways i totally agree. + Rep Who is to determine what is right and what is wrong? As Pain/Nagato has said your peace is only achieved by the destruction of another. (paraphrasing ofcourse) I believe that they really arent bad guys but taking anothers life in order to gain peace is just being hypocritical and just totally contradicts the idea of peace.

think about it this way was nagito truly evil?
he tried to bring about peace but in end passed torch to naruto when he trusted naruto.
ideals and life experiences can guide or misguide a person. even if someone thinks doing it for right reasons. can go about things in wrong ways.
depending on choices someone can right a wrong or even destroy to create. no offence but if madara didnt start a war all nations wouldnt join together and a strain still be in neigboring countries. so even though he tried to make peice his own way he played a key role in making peace even if just a part. nagito also played a role as well. all these pieces of a puzzle factor the big picture. if you take out one or 2 peices then the end result probly wont be the same.
