When you look at previous pics of the Hokage statue, you can notice that the one that symbolises Hashirama has no hair. What happened? Did he cut his hair at the moment he took the Hokage position or something? xd This is the pic

I thought that, too, but it's very straight and when he wore that red band it was pushed back with the exception of a few stray bangs. In other pics of the mountain, you can see his long hair but its hard to notice with the others and their spiky hair.

From an artist POV, I'd say it's due to his hair being long. It wouldn't look right to try to form his hair when his face is coming from a mountain as it is.
