I agree to an extent, but it's a really complicated question...First of all it also depends on the country/culture/society. It's enough if we think of the muslim countries, there they take it really seriously as much as I know...While in the western countries it's basically fashionable to lose virginity while being a teen, partly coz relationships and *** are popularized by the media, and while it's true that people know about contraceptives and stuff, very little attention is paid to the emotional side of it, and some teens just do it for the sake of trying it out. There are exceptions though...There is no firm age limit, but I think that most teens under 18 are simply not wise, mature and reliable enough to measure the consequences and fathom the importance of ***...Though some time they have to learn it ...So yeah there is a pressure from the classmates and stuff, but I agree that teens or anyone should have *** only when she/he is ready and only with someone he/she loves.

It has a lot to do with Peer-pressure and culture in general. I have noticed that a lot of stigma is associated with Virginity in Western Societies, where the kids are picked on and repeatedly snubbed or rebuffed for their sexual preferences and experiences in general. It has basically become an in-crowd thing. In Muslim countries - where I hail from - it's precisely the opposite. Even Honor killings take place especially if a girl is involved, so I highly doubt you would find any girls de-flowering themselves casually here. Even Rape victims face nothing but shame; it's truly a sad state.

Personally, I detest both extremes. I cannot understand how people can't seem to take the middle ground here. *** shouldn't be considered an important fashion statement due to the repercussions associated with it, and it should be treated as a moral stand point for putting people to death over it. This world is clearly insane. I don't understand or fathom this extreme opposing obsessions over ***.
