Characters grow and develop as their stories progress, Naruto for example went from being the immature academy drop-out to the Hero of the Leaf that is aiming for world peace. The character hasn't changed entirely but he's developed.

My favourite character development has to be the character of Chouji. A nice kid who was bullied but finds his true friends in the Sasuke Retrieval Arc and fights for them. It made the audience feel guilty for disliking him and regarding him as 'cheap comedy relief' when there is actually a really sweet character there. Then in Shippuden he has to come to grips that he has to fight and his kindness can't get in the way of the war.

Discuss. (Also by the way, getting a susanoo and like a million sharingan powerups or other abilities ISNT character development.)

Gaara had one of the best and most genuine character developments in the entire series. I feel like almost every other villain after him follows his development template (which is both a good and bad thing)

Yeah it is, it's just not good character development.

I liked Shippuden Sasuke to current Sasuke, Shippuden Sasuke was a bit of an asshole, but now he's turning back into the part 1 Sasuke he used to be.

Yeah it is, it's just not good character development.

It doesn't really change them as a personality, I just wrote that so I wouldn't get a whole thread full of "I LIEK HOW SASKUEE GOT MORE SHANRNGANS THAN HE USD TO HAV" because I wouldn't put it past this forum sometimes.

Did he ever actually change though? I thought the point of the character was that he's always the same. We just learn more about him, it's the same old guy.

He slowly learns responsibility and how to not piss off everyone in his general vicinity. Feels like he's one of the few with a believable and genuine development.
