This is just a wild gues but seeing hashirama apparently went mokuton sage it makes me wonder if its a blood line trait. Obviously not very senju is going to have a super powerful on like hashirama only the strong ones, so it's a possibility that tobirama could be a sage of water.

I already know that but I'm suggesting its something different.look there are supposedly three types slug, toad and snake.to be honest I highly doubt that hashirama has any of those becuase toads and snakes has already been done and I'm not feel slugs, so I a merely suggesting a type of sage mode that is special to the senju clan.
