Basically a thought has occurred to me that (unless I missed something, and that isn't impossible), has all but ruined this series for me. This world has officially defeated death (or as close to as technically possible).
Okay I coincide, that as far as Immortality is concerned, that it is not a new concept to this story. Orochimaru, Kakazu, Hidan, and Sasori had all not only proved the concept is attainable, but also that there are many ways in which to attain it. But the four mentioned here came at a price (minus Orochimaru which I'll get at in a moment). What I mean by price is, that it had a cost to weigh against the gain, either being the costs of others such as with Kakazu and Hidan or yourself such as with Sasori. The ideal of resurrection was not a new concept either with the original introduction of Edo Tensai and the Reanimation technique used by Elder Chiyo. Showing that not only was there multiple ways of escaping death, there were multiple ways of bringing you back in case you did die anyways.
But none of of these particularly risked the story in my opinion because as stated above, each of them came at a cost. There was the classic Quanity vs Quality of Life, how much is one life valued over the other, and similar moral conundrums that worked to enrich the world as a whole, of course now these are all thrown out the window.
For instance, Neji's death was dramatic and touching (and props to Kishi for the move, given Neji's popularity), but so what?
One could simply use Edo Tensai on him as is, and he himself is brought back to the world of the living, he could even use Edo Tensai on himself to insure he retains freewill. That alone is not enough to really ruin it for me completely, until you get to the second part.
There has been no shown penalties of Edo Tensai (in respect to bringing the dead back), but there are still some limitations, as will as, aesthetic problems with that option.
No worries there though, because utilizing Orochimaru's technique or one similar (as he now proven when he took over the white zetsu) you can just implant your Soul into any appropriate container.
I could go farther into it, but that would only be a waste of space so to summarize.
At this point in time, if a character dies... so what? If it sucks just bring them back. If your terminal, just soul switch into an available clone, and make it your new body. Can't afford a clone? No problem, Edo Tensai yourself for awhile until you can.
At least the Dragonballs had limits. -.-
