I have thought about it, and it was actually an outstanding initiative to stop spam(If that was the reason), However... At what cost... There are always many ways to spam, And by doing this we can no longer write simple things such as Welcome, Hello, etc.. We have to afgsh@ herp a derp in order to make the post valid. Not very fair...

So as the title suggests, The suggestion is to make it so that we can at least type 5-word-long messages, At least. :(

If theres people with bad behavior, rude, or annoying, that's fine. We all have a report /!\ button underneath.

Agreed.
This '15 character thing' is getting a little ridiculous.

I'm for the current standing 100%.

To quote Zise and show you why I agree-

Yeah, since people do tend to abuse everything that we leave a bit open we will try this to see if it will make the site a better place. There is only one way to know, and it's to test it out.

Also ask yourself when you make a thread, are you happy answers like "Yes.", "No.", "Agree." and similar one word replies? I don't think so, and if that's what you want... That's what we have polls for, you simply put the options: Yes, No and Maybe and so on as answers to your poll question. The posting in threads are for discussion, and yeah if people learn how to follow the rules and post things of value in the right place and to follow the guidelines we have, then we wouldn't need to add things like this.

This is a test and writing one word replies is simply against the rules. This is a forum afteall, so actually put effort and say "Welcome to NB -insert name-" instead of "welcome." It adds depth.

I think that rather than discouraging trolling, this new policy only serves to promote it more, since unnecessary words have to be added to the thought of the post just to meet the quota of the minimum number of characters per post.

Agreed. And to show my agreement to his post I must now make more words. I think yes and no posts are ok as long as they are not trolling and flaming.

Exactly. It is ridiculous to place enough dots or smilies or spaces for all I care behind a simple 'hello' or 'no problem' to make things valid.
It's not like we write a whole book every time we post a vm o_o

Take for example someone who has a disagreement with another in the same thread, instead of simply saying "I disagree" the character limit entails the necessity to unnecessarily extend the sentence of the response, which could elicit a provocative response like "I disagree with this preposterous theory" therefore the flames of "war" have already been kindled, so the 15 character limit is more detrimental to the intended purpose which is the prevention of trolling and flaming rather than contributing to the intended purpose.

There was no setting to avoid it for sections or VM, there might be a plugin or a mod which will solve this. But for now we will have it like this, since it will teach people how to type proper responses in threads, and maybe they'll make it a habit til we find a better way.

I disagree.
You see, I think that your example is not a good one. If one is to disagree on a thread with a proper topic, one should explain why to keep the discussion/conversation going. That is the whole purpose of a thread, is it not?
If we all were just to say I agree or I disagree, there would be no discussion.
You don't have to add such words, you can just put more information. Why do you disagree? Why do you think this and think that? Explain.
In vm's, the matter is entirely different. I think that at least 7 of 10 vms are short. A mere 'how are you' 'fine, wbu?' convo. Nothing really to explain about statements or opinions.
At least, that is how I see it.

In my opinion it is a very good plugin for the forum. However, I do hope there is a way to change it in vm eventually. But yeah, it's fine for now.

I think you have too much faith in the maturity of the members, imho when a response requires longer words than what is needed or intended by the poster, the probability of flaming and trolling increases. And I think it is a categorical error to assume that the poster's intended purpose was to keep the conversation going by posting in the first place, nor are they obligated to explain their reasons for disagreeing, some of them merely makes opinions on the subject matter of a thread and leaves. Instead of saying "I disagree" some would have to post longer and say "I disagree with this crap" and leaves. The seeds of discord have already been planted. :)
