Senju and Uchiha enemies even before Hashirama and Madara?

Obviously the history of the two clans does not begin with these guys. They were the strongest in their respective clans when they were fully grown no doubt, but before they came along and took over as the leaders of
Senju and Uchiha, there must have been..........others.

That's what Hashirama was talking about when he said, "I should probably begin with the Senju and Uchiha" when he started on his account of the history of Shinobi and the Village.

That is why we are getting a glimpse into their distant pasts, in a time when Hashirama and Madara were just children!

I think hashirama is going back to the roots of the village's two Founding and most powerful shinobi, their relationship and how the village came about for sasuke to better understand why certain actions and decisions were made. It would be wise of Sasuke also in the future to ask madara for his side of the story (which will most likely happen).
