Looking at the latest chapter, we get to see some of the Uchiha's and Senju's abilities to their fullest. But looking at both of their main techniques, Mokuton and Susano'o, I think I realized something.
Here we can see Madara shaping and molding his Susano'o to fit around the Kyuubi as armour. While it hasn't been shown to be as versatile as Mokuton, this proves Susano'o can be molded and changed to fit the user's needs.
There's really no need to explain Mokuton at this point, since we've seen it's shaping capabilities.
Now, looking at the Senju and Uchiha's past, we know that the two inherited different qualities from the So6P, including two different types of chakra. The Sage of 6 Paths was said to be known for shaping and creating, No? So why wouldn't he pass down some of his shaping abilites (watered-down abilities, I might add) to his two sons?
The Uchihas, who obtained the eyes and sinister chakra, got the shaping in the form of Susano'o: A jutsu that uses the sinister chakra of the user in a selfish way by using the user's own eyes, no reliance on others.
The Senju (mainly Hashi) obtained the shaping in the form of Mokuton, a jutsu relys on the assistance of nature and is the opposite of selfishness.
I think that these two are eerily similar opposites: One is selfish and only uses it's own sinister chakra, the other is dependent on the Earth and works with it to shape and form.
Earlier I read an interesting idea from another user that could apply to this, and that's Sasuke shaping his Susano'o as an armour for himself that molds to his body, making him much more versatile. This could perhaps have a similar effect as Naruto's BM, with Sasuke being able to extend and use his chakra as hands and such.
But I don't know, I never have many theories haha.

Here we see Madara molding Susano'o with a TBB, effectively turning it into a form of Shuriken. This isn't unlike Sasuke's crossbow ability. There's really no need to explain Mokuton at this point, since we've seen it's shaping capabilities.
