Seriously guys, I really don't think the reason why Madara left the village, prepared himself to kill Hashirama and came back to fight him was something like a mere love triangle between them. To me, this chapter showed it was clearly Izuna's death and nothing else.

Of course, the chapter also showed they were friends and rivals from the start on, but there must have been more to it than just simple rivalry. Rivalry alone didn't lead Naruto and Sasuke to come at each other at the valley of end. The scenes look about the same btw.

In Sasuke's case it was revenge and the wish to become strong enough to kill Itachi. In Madara's case it was avenging Izuna's death.

See this page:

The facial expression when Hashirama mentions their brothers and how it is important to protect what they've left behind... Madara's face is all grief and anger.

So could it be that Hashirama or Tobirama did something that led to Izuna's death? It's the only plausible explanation of why Madara would hate Hashirama so crazily. And I believe it's going that way.

How could they lead to his death if it was already said that he died after giving his eyes to Madara. Madara didnt want that his sacrifice for Uchiha would go in vain because right after his death Uchiha and Senju made an alliance so it wasnt necesarry for him to die.

It was said he died in battle, wasn't it? As a blind man? He most likely died before the truce so they might have killed him. See his face in last chapter, it's all about his brother. I doubt some random fodder killed him.

I think Madara loved Mito, and because Hashirama married mito he wanted to get revenge

I don't know where you got that Izuna died in battle. I wonder how come he went to battle blind while all Uchiha consider their strength due to ocular powers.

It was said. There were even pictures of his burial as a blind man. Databook I believe.

Was said.... great but where exactly? And him lying in the coffin doesnt ensure us that he died in battle
