How come the 3rd Hokage was brought back as an old man?

I was just thinking, why, if the Edo tensei brings you back at the peak of your Ninjahood (if that's a word) is the 3rd an old man? Was he lame when he was younger or something?

Kishi is inconsistent with this. It does not revive u in ur prime. That's the reason why Oro uses 1st Hokage's cells to get them to there prime. For there appearance? Kishi is still inconsistent on this.
