Why would he do that when world domination wasn't their goal? and that would've brought about the 4th shinobi war much sooner than present and akatsuki would have to face 80'000 angry shinobi and kage's because obito wasn't smart enough to make them to secretly capture the jinchuriki instead of invading entire villages.

And we've seen the majority of akatsuki defeated in this war.

They wouldn't instantly join forces. Akatsuki could wipe out a village in under an hour, and move to another before the news spread to the other villages. They would wipe out the second village, so at most 3 villages would be allied against them, and I don't believe that is enough to stop them.

Plus, you are acting as if they wouldn't have the army of Zetsus to help them, which they would.

I don't think they were that much of a failure. They managed to catch 7 of the 9 Bijuu, at least.
If all of them attacked as a group, they'd be nearly unstoppable. xd
