Did light win? I know hes dead and all, but in the last manga you still see people lighting candles watching in the night sky and saying, kira-sama

Plus he actually reduced crime rate seriously

What do you guys think, people still believe of kira as a god, so in my book he lost the game but won the battle

i hated the ending!
of all the manga's that are going on now, I wouldn't mind it one bit if they stopped
but death note, I hated it SO BAD cause of it ending like that and not bringing up a second
kira first...

One of my favorite manga/anime's

He died. I don't think there can be any more added to that? I'm pretty sure if you die you lose. Plus, let's say the manga went on after Light's death, who would've carried on killing people with a Death Note? No one, he lost.

Making another Kira would be recycling the same idea over and over again light's story was over and so death note came to a close.
The world was noted to be falling back into its old pattern.Signifying the world will always be the way it is.
So no.Light did not win the battle or the war.His ambitions far exceeded his talent which led to his downfall and overall corruption.

By that logic, Lelouch also lost. Many Code Geass fanboys don't wanna accept that...

I can't see it as a win-lose situation.

Besides, the whole story is based on the Shinigami's desire for some human fun.
He wants to see how they would behave with a power such as DN.

In the end Raito was discovered, he ended up dying, and Ryuku lost his entertainment...

One of the Best Mangás EVER! :)

he failed his original goal to rule as god of the new world, but he did do some "good" going towards that goal, lelouch succeeded with his plan it's not the same result as lights.

That wasn't the actual ending, in the directors cut dvd there is a scene where Light has been reincarnated into a shinigami and is asking Ryuk how he got to the human world.

It could've been such a better ending if Light didn't act like a ****ing 5 year old and have a tantrum

Imo, Light basically won.

He only lost because his followers were stupid

Huh? He's talking about the original manga ending, you're bringing up some fan-made nonsense u_u

On topic: Light lost, crimes and violence increased after his death, however there truly were people who supported him and not because of fear.

If he went out with his head held high, I would give him props and call it a win. Kamikaze is a suboptimal win, but a win none the less.

But he went out whining and crying and the death was not planned, intended, desired, or accepted by him. Going out like a punk gets you neg rep, and gets you admitted to the loser hall of fame just on that criteria.

Light lost unfortunately. I think if he'd had no "allies" he wouldn't have died. He only got caught thanks to Mikami's slip up by going to the bank during a time that was usual (because he followed a routine every day) allowing the spk to figure out where he was keeping the real death note. Instead of trusting light to handle Takada, Mikami took it upon himself to get out the death note and kill her (even though light had written her name down and killed her first).Ugh... seriously, that was the only way he was going to get caught. If that guy would have listened to him Near would have lost but Mikami was an idiot and acted on his own which was Light's downfall. But to end the story they had to kill light I can't imagine the bad guy living and ruling the world because no matter how much I liked light he was the evil person in the story even though he was the main character, he had to be taken down.

Can't really add much to what has already been said, Light tried to revolutionize the world with his own ideals and was ultimately unsuccessful. Ultimately he did impact the world and he has left his mark, but the fact remains that he was killed off before he could realize his goals, so I guess one might say he "lost."

On the topic of Lelouch, the situations of Light and Lelouch were vastly different, one can't use the same logic to say that "Lelouch lost" like one might with Light. Obviously I'm more inclined to Lelouch, but that's not the point.

Lelouch had
planned out his death and the method in which he would bring about world peace. He went through a lot of trouble to do what he had to and his plans certainly didn't seem to have a high probability of success, but ultimately he took the victory over Schneizel and dominated the world. With the world's hatred on him, allowing himself to die to bring about world peace could be properly executed, and with that in mind I cannot fathom how anyone COULD argue that "Lelouch lost." The key difference between the end of Light and Lelouch is that Light went down due to being defeated by someone who had figured him out, and he could not carry out his ideals. Lelouch went down knowing that his death would bring about exactly what he intended and everything up to the very end went according to his plan, it's unfathomable how anyone could possibly say that Lelouch was unsuccessful by comparison
