Never did any damage? Well it took Vegeta for a whirl, pushed Frieza to his limits, and ultimately killed Kid Buu. It's impossible to say that it "did no damage."

But I would agree it's not the best move out there. It requires significant prep time and if not for vast support or the enemy just being flat out stupid, it wouldn't work to begin with.

Actually Vegeta was taken down by it, the only reason he survived was because Goku was a nice guy and let him escape, Krillin would have killed him if he hadn't. Sure it didn't kill Vegeta, but it was the only reason the good guys won in the first place.

Frieza came out of it pretty angry and ready for battle but it did the most damage of any attack thrown at him up to that point. Of course, Goku proceeded to go Super Saiyan and did a lot better after that, but the fact remains that Spirit Bomb did a lot more than the previous useless attempts by, well, everybody.

So again, "no damage" is an extreme exaggeration.

The time to charge the attack is insane. I was the only move to put down Kid Buu though (and almost every non cannon movie). It wouldn't be usable in a real fight.

Not against guys like this however.

This is Z erasing part of the moon out of existence. He did that with just using his hand as to where to aim and with his mind. Not blowing it it up, erasing it from existence.

I also should say no one but cannon Buu is a planet buster. This means blow up a planet and leave nothing left. Frieza destroyed the core of Namek causing the planet to become unstable and collapse on itself and blow up. Cell was teleported so we couldn't really see what he was able to do but it was stated he could blow up the Earth. Of course the Earth is really small compared to other things in the universe. People saying they can blow up the Solar system and galaxies with an attack is stupid. Is Goku going to go around and Dragon fist all the planets? Maybe his Kamehame wave could somehow hit all of the planets in a row or something when they all align. Oh wait, he would have to start at the sun and be able to breath in space to do that. NO WAIT! Goku will make a solar system sized Spirit Bomb and blow up the solar system. It makes perfect sense. I wonder how much time that would take to charge. Hmm....

In conclusion. Yes, the Spirit bomb is overrated.

Spirit bomb is indeed powerful and can easily wipe out a planet in one shot, but the spirit bomb is slow when thrown, takes a long time to collect energy and you are pretty a easy target while standing there gathering energy.

Quite the contrary, Vegeta was half dead because of the Spirit Bomb. Up to that point he could've killed the good guys, but the Spirit Bomb severely damaged him. Ultimately it was because of Gohan transforming that the deed was really finished but if that had taken place before the Spirit Bomb, Vegeta would've had no trouble turning Gohan back to normal and just killing everybody.

that is mid tier. there are characters who throw galaxies and erase universes with ease
I've never seen a spirit bomb blow up a planet. Or show potential to do so.
a small fist sized blast from kid boo was stated to be able ot destroy earth if vegeta didnt stop him. that same boo died to a moon sized genkidama

Spirit bomb strength depends on the energy gathered from other people/living things. The Spirit bomb Goku used on Vegeta wasn't from everyone in the universe like when he killed kid buu. Spirit Bomb is kind of like a variable.
