With the recent clarification of the Madara-Izuna story (Madara really loved his brother after all, apparently even more so than Itachi did Sasuke), Madara has (at least ostensibly) been converted from your archetypical power lusting villain into another tragic Uchiha.
Now because of the much anticipated Naruto/Sasuke fight (and the much foreshadowed tnjing of Sasuke by Naruto), Sasuke will likely not be redeemed in this current therapy session with the hokages: he may decide to absolve konoha and instead displace his anger on the shinobi world in general, that is, he will join Obito and Madaras cause with the eye of the moon plan. This will set up the final battle very nicely and make Sasuke a more palatable final villain because he will then have a general world wide ambition.
