Well..........uh........here goes nothing............
You guys are great! I mean it.You are doing an excellent job.But .........
banning isn't that good. It's the last resort. If you ban someone it only mean that, you can't deal with him/her anymore. It's not that we are running away. It's kinda like..........giving up.We can't argue with some people.I accept that. The more we ask them, the more it's bound to get messy. But before banning someone please ask them whether they had done something against the rules are not.If they do,go ahead ,give them the reason and ban them straight away.If they deny doing such things..........get to the bottom of that.Get your proofs. Then show them to that person and ban that person. It might sound like a pain. But I believe that, it's the correct way to do it.Everybody makes mistakes. If you ever made one, stand up, accept it and ask for an apology. It isn't giving up,it's part of growing up.You may believe that banning someone, giving them infraction points is the right way to keep the site clean.But..........when you ban someone,it mean that they are not wanted here.And..........MAN!!!!!!!! I don't think I M GETTING THIS RIGHT!!!!!!!!!
Whatever just make sure that you are doing the right thing :)
Your well wisher,

Well you got one thing right for sure. Banning someone means that s/he is not wanted anymore in this forum.

But I am not sure I see a suggestion in your post.

They tell you why you are being banned. And if you are being banned you have done something legitimately stupid.

If a mod bans someone I am sure the person broke a rule and the mod is well within their rights to do so.

unless you really deserve it no body should be banned.
if you make fun of some one in the forum or swear immensely then yes.

and whats to stop the person who broke the rule from always denying it or lying about it? your expecting everybody to act honestly, which makes me believe that you haven't been around some of the bigger trolls on this forum. while your idea is good in theory, it breaks down when you take into account that not every member is going to be nice about it

I understand where you are coming from but there is something you are missing here.
In every forum all over the internet the administrators have the right to choose which members should be in their community or not. Think of this. I come to your doorstep and i knock on your door. You can choose to let me in or slam your door in my face. It's the same here. Based on our agreement when we first became admins we don't need a reason to ban someone.

We chose, though, never to do this and we have never done it. There is not one single person that got banned from this site without having broken the rules one way or another. We have never banned anyone without legitimate reason.

People who get banned are normallly well known with the infraction system. You are given a message for why you were infracted. When you are banned and log in, it states "You have been banned for -whatever you did-"

The mods make it very clear. It takes 3 points to get an infraction and before that you get one warning. If you don't know why you were banned and you haven't experienced 3 infractions/a warning before, than you'll probably be back within a day, to which you'll also recieve a message and if that doesn't work, you can ask why you were banned. If you are banned for a long time/permanant and you do not have a bad track record at all, make an Alt and ask an admin. That is last resort.

Like Rei said, Mods always have a reason. .1 percent of the time something could go wrong. If so, resort to asking them via an alt. 99.9%of the time, you were banned for the right reasons.

There's also a difference between "make sure your bans are correct" and "I think your bans are correct"(as a member).
If you get banned, you did something wrong and you're penalized. This hurts the pride of members, and they often become very very defensive about it, and complain. The thing is that we have guidelines and rules that need to be maintained and upheld. As long as you live to your end of the bargain (the rules you agreed to abide by), we won't infract or ban you. Honestly, most of the time we're too nice.

We also use an infraction point based system to assure someone doesn't "just get banned" for nothing. Moderators don't even have that power to ban someone instantly, unless they are alt/trolls that spam the forum with gore and images not suited for a PG-13 forum.

Think about it. 1 word replies are spam (things like: "ok", "true, "this" "agree", etc). If we would infract, and I actually mean infract as it's rule breaking (and not a warning) every single time, half the forum would be banned. You also need to realize that there are more factors to it. Someone who has been a long time on the forum, who has had a lot of infractions before (for the same reasons), someone who constantly bullying others (which is just ethically speaking not done) knows what they are doing wrong. Someone who joined 1 day before, I can live with the fact that they posted a one word reply and just hand out a warning because they didn't know.

My point is, look further than the length of your nose (Dutch saying: you need to look at the bigger picture). There is much more to banning/infracting/warning/moderating, and what not, than a normal members sees happening.
