People probably dislike it because the user dies as it is basically a kamikaze attack.
You must be registered for see links
tbh it is kind of a weka jutsu and here is why
when you use it ....it kills you so no one is gonna use it at the start of a fight they will wait to use it as a last resort but as seen with hiruzen the jutsu is only as powerful as the person is when they cast it
hiruzen could get more then oros arms and minato only got half the kyuubi tho this was by choice so maybe he could have got the whole thing
my point is yes it is powerful in a way but not a very effective jutsu imo because it kills the user and doesnt even garuntee a kill
I said it there and I will say it again.
It is a disproportionately bad jutsu.
The ENTIRE series, we have been lead to believe it was permanent. However, it is obviously not.
Don't say it is a trade off either. Because we have NEVER seen an opponent die from it.
Don't say you have to kill yourself to break the seal it. Because Oro DID NOT (and also, in a world where mind control and clones exist, getting somebody to kill themselves is not some serious undertaking).
Don't say that it is superior to other seals. Because, as far as I know, nobody got out of Pain's hell gate. Nobody got out of Itachi's gourd. Nobody got out of the So6P gourd on their own merit. Many edo nin and kage have been sealed by "sealing teams" who are not using the reaper death seal, thus there must be other powerful seals out there AND NOBODY IS KILLING THEMSELVES TO USE THEM!
We have seen only a few (two?) jutsu that are "you die if you use this, and not from chakra exhaustion." One was Chio's resurrection, which worked exactly as it was supposed to. One was the Reaper Death Seal, which is not permanent, and has never killed or stopped anybody! Tobi still has the Kyubbi's chakra. Oro is still alive and well, working his plans. And the 1st and 2nd are back out on the battle field.
We can speculate about what would have happened had it never been used, sure. But, as it stands, nobody's intentions from using it have panned out as they expected them to.
PLEASE! Please, name me one jutsu that has failed THIS MUCH and has this serious of a downside associated with it.
@GaaratheFifth If anyone but Oro tried to break the seal they would of died. The only reason Oro lived is because he can transfer bodies and researched this specific jutsu for years. People from Pain's hell gate were released by Nagato. Orochimaru survived Totsuka's Blade. People were still freed from the Sot6P gourd regardless of their own merit(If you can't count own someone to help you every once in a while then Genjutsu would be the ultimate technique)
Also, what if Ino used mind control or somebody used Shisui's eye and had somebody sacrifice themselves to break the seal? That is exactly the kind of thing a villain would do to break a powerful seal
You really cannot say that "if anyone but Oro tried to break the seal, they would [have] died." Because nobody has tried! Also, what if Ino used mind control or somebody used Shisui's eye and had somebody sacrifice themselves to break the seal? That is exactly the kind of thing a villain would do to break a powerful seal, and was not accounted for by the 4th or 3rd.
Nagato released people from his soul gate to use them. That is the only example I can think of. And ya know what? He was able to do that because sealing them in there did not kill him.
Oro survived the Totsuka Blade. But he was not completely sealed in the gourd. His body and cells were elsewhere. Thus, he was never completely hit by the jutsu (much like RDS), but Itachi did not die from using the Totsuka Blade.
Finally, the Kin Gin brothers were released and nobody died as a direct result of putting them in there or releasing them.
As a note, I do actually think Genjutsu is the ultimate technique, it seems.
Anyway, there is no fault you can point out with any other jutsu that is worse than DYING to use it. I am done arguing about this, as it is redundant now.
