The only thing i have seen them sucessfully complete was the killing/paralyzing of a tiger lion whatever.
They get shown up by genin... GENIN

Anbu arent that bad. They just have to fight people like Kabuto or Orochimaru. If they fought Naruto and co. They would of destroyed them in the beginning. Anbu also seem the most ninjalike out of everyone else.

So I think they are worthy.
And we are not supposed to know what ANBU's do...they work undercover and take orders straight from the Hokage.They are not really related to the plot so I don't wonder why we don't get to see more of them.
