There weren't any other people on the streets when the group was walking around. It makes perfect sense if you think about the two places that they visited. First, they went to the remnants of the Uzumaki clan's village to retrieve the shinigami mask and then they went to the area of the village that used to belong to the Uchiha. Both of these areas were pretty much abandoned after the clans died out/vacated. Plus, Orochimaru said that he had been to the Uzumaki clan area on a regular basis to study the Reaper Death Seal.
