itachi died and sasuke did not. if itachi wasnt trying then his entire life was a waste of time since he created a lie under sasukes eyes and tried to make him think he was better than he really was.
itachi could not face kabuto alone and knew it. it was sasuke who kept saying "dude he is like oro, dont underestimate him"
