As a person who finished the entire thing, it's not that bad.

Yeah I was really amused with that episode, the interactions between Kirito and Asuna were really sweet and I liked their relationship, even if it was rushed.

SAO is a masterpiece of 2012

I wouldn't say masterpiece, SAO is good but not that good. SAO episode 14 was one of the worst episodes I've ever seen in anything for a long time. SAO has good action and awesome character interactions, but the characters themselves are pretty shallow and aside from Kirito, Asuna, and Suguha, everybody is pretty much one-dimensional. Even Asuna and Suguha are quite restricted in their development.

Now masterpiece of 2012 in my eyes is more along the lines of Fate/Zero, Accel World, Kuroko no Basket, etc. Now those were fantastic. Sword Art was good but for me it was an 8/10 and nothing more. It had its moments no doubt, but some parts bogged it down terribly and in the end I couldn't even bring myself to give it a 9 because of rushed pacing, lack of development, and massive plot no jutsu.

That's not even what happens... the real chapter was edited, and then the explicit content was removed from the main chapter, and made into a special 16.5 chapter that was never officially published.

If you want to read what actually happens during that night:

No mention of Another or Nisemonogatari?

Nope, was made by the Author.

From Wiki: "Reki Kawahara wrote the first volume in 2002 as a competition entry for ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Game Novel Prize (電撃ゲーム小説大賞 Dengeki Game Shōsetsu Taishō?, now Dengeki Novel Prize), but refrained from submitting it as he had exceeded the page limit. He instead published it as a web novel under the pseudonym Fumio Kunori.[3] Over time, he added three further volumes and several short stories.[4][5] In 2008, he participated in the competition again by writing Accel World, this time winning the Grand Prize. Aside from Accel World, he was requested to get his earlier work, Sword Art Online, published by ASCII Media Works.[3] Kawahara agreed and withdrew his web novel versions.[5] The republication as a paper novel began on April 10, 2009. The paper novel excluded chapter 16.5 of volume 1 of the web novel, due to its explicit nature. On October 10, 2012, the first volume of the Sword Art Online: Progressive series was released. Progressive covers Kirito's adventures on the first and second floors of Aincrad, and includes a rewrite of two side stories, Aria in the Starless Night and Rondo of the Transient Sword."

I haven't watched either of those :( I hope I can give them a watch sometime soon, I've heard good things about both of them. Gonna be hard for anything to top Fate/Zero or Accel for me though.

I wouldn't say sucks, the character interactions are really sweet and the action is pretty awesome. Not to mention that SAO really knows how to get the feels out of you. But I'd definitely say that Accel World is its superior, and the idea that people say SAO is best of 2012 when Accel is similar but more awesome in almost every way kinda hurts.

Awesome, it does start off a little slow and some might even say generic, but from episode 4 on things get intense and it really becomes great. The character development is way better than SAO's and the action is fantastic. Hopefully you like it as much as me.
