I wonder if that moment with Obito was what he foreshadowed or his choice with Kurama? He befriended Kurama and Hinata stopped him from listening to Obito's words. Itachi told Naruto that his friends who would there when he needed them and if he pushed them away he'd have nothing. He's made all the right choices leading him to saving the world... so far.
