Do you think it's impossible for a non-japanese team to creat successful manga?

Like most of said, yes.

There are more comic companies than DC/Marvel and more genres of comics. You can do whatever you want.

It is possible if you work hard enough with good ideas and a successful plot story

Theres actually been a lot of manga/anime styled seriez coming from america lately. Boondocks, Afro Samurai, Avatar, even the New Thundercats have all had a japanese style to them.

If I'm not mistaken, Fairy Tail is made by Americans, but with Japanese voice actors. So it should be possible.
You might just not be able to call it a manga, in the same way as "champagne" is only allowed to be called champagne if it is made in that region.

Manga is just a name for comic or graphic novel over there, don't get too fixated on making a 'manga' and just focus on making a 'story' :)

Scott Pilgrim & Avatar could both pass for mangas and they're still incredibly successful.

Why not just self publish? It's super easy, especially if you're just doing an online version first before actually printing it. If enough time and energy is put into advertising (no money required to advertise even), it woud be popular in a month or two. I'm not exactly sure why people don't do that more and turn to small companies instead who take a ton of the profits.

Anything's possible, but it seems unlikely.

^ This. I agree with this partly because it is hard to have a successful/popular comic and/or manga. It has to have a great plot, easy flow (from panel to panel), and good artwork.

It would be smart to get your name out there first. Maybe work for a large company to get experience that does drawing. That is what Oda, the creator of One Piece did. He first worked as a background artist for the manga Rurouni Kenshin. After that he developed one of the greatest mangas of all time. The support he had and knowledge he got helped him develop something as great as One Piece first try. If he can do it, so can you. If you want to become known, make sure you have some marketing knowledge too. There are a lot of aspects of business you need to know before you do it. If you want to do it just because it is fun and don't plan to make a living off of it, go for it. Nothing is stopping you from trying.

Thanks man, I'ma let my friends see this. your Shadow avatar almost stopped me from repping you (I hate him more than any fictional character ever made) but I'll let it slide :D

Brian Lee O'Malley is Canadian, the Scott Pilgrim series was a NY Times best seller, they turned it into a movie. If he can get rich making a manga style story about Canadian 20 year olds doing noting, then I'm pretty sure anyone can do it. Follow your dreams

Lol. he's just a more op rip off of Vegeta. People think Naruto copied DBZ. They have not seen how bad Sonic X is. It IS DBZ but with furries. That is the only thing I don't like about him. His powers are awesome though. Who wouldn't want the power to stop time.

You can check Mark Crilley's work, he's a successful American manga artist and author. He has three published comic books ( Miki Falls, Akiko, and Brody's Ghost ). So yeah, non-Japanese people can create successful manga works, why not? :)
