I was kinda surprised at tobirama's attitude, the way he reasoned his actions to separate the uchihas from the rest of the village.....hashirama believed in treating every shinobi of the village with equal respect, that's how senju preached their love, benevolence along with the will of fire....then why did tobirama did something like this? I appreciate his skills as a hokage but as a character he is a sharp contrast to the others.....he seemed to fear as well as hate the uchihas...it maybe true that the trauma from losing someone they love awaken a new power in them and that is the MS.....but why is it that they should be feared for that?? Why did tobirama think they would misuse this power? Why didn't he have enough confidence that he can supress the hatred among the uchihas by treating then with proper love and respect? Was he a good hokage? I really hate the fact that i'm doubting tobirama's capabilities and ipnis character but still can't ignore it....

He was a bit selfish. His fear of Madara made this annihilation of Uchiha comes true later. It's sad. U_U

True, he was a bit selfish, but he didn't put them in that position solely out of fear. He said it himself that he truly thought they would prove themselves to be useful, in the end it was the clan itself who brought about their own demise.

He really is a strange character, especially considering he is the only one with this attitude.. But he saw, hashirama that is called the greatest Senju, fight against Madara. He saw the power of the Uchiha, even though he down talks his brother he probably does know what he's capable of by strength... So it must have been fear that made him do it.. He says so himself, he didn't want to see another Madara Uchiha rise up..

Now because of that sentence, we will either see Sasuke grow into the new Madara.. Or if the first says right things.. He will soften the already softer Sasuke we see before us.. We'll just have to wait and see!

I din't like the term "useful".....after all the uchihas are citizens of the village......

This. ^^
And regarding the Uchiha massacre in particular: that was clearly the order of the Elders and happened under Hiruzens’ reign.
