(i dont remember reading that they can't)If yes, then why dont they learn it? if they learned it, i think they will really strong shinobi, stronger than they are now.. imagine fighting a hyuuga and he/she is like suiton, (insert jutsu here), then you manage to get close, and he just.. JYUUKEN! that would be nice.:)

To become a Jonin, like Neji and Hiashi are/were :(, you need to know some Ninjutsu and have at least 2 elemental affinities.

Its possible, but they would like to stay with their signature style, which is already deadly in its own right.

They probably just focus on their gentle fist... but yes, they could IMO.

It's probably a tradition in the Hyuuga clan to master the arts of the Byakugan, so it might not be a priority to learn other elements and jutsus.

I wonder if Guy can do that.

To be a Ninja you must use some type of Ninjutsu period. If Lee can be a Ninja with just Taijutsu so can others who have more than Lee.

How about Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm? That's a ninjutsu.

He probably can use one element, but it was stated in the manga and the databook, so there's no point arguing against it.

I know the anime isn't canon (least of the anime-filler) but Hinata uses some ninjutsu in fillers.

That said, I think the Hyuga CAN learn/use ninjutsu. BUT I think it's more efficient for them to use the same amount of chakra needed in ninjutsu in Gentle Fist instead. Rather than building up chakra, kneading it, molding it, making hand signs, using nature transformation, etc, why not just shoot that straight up pure chakra into the opponent's body and do damage directly that way. Obviously anyone can do that but the Hyuga do it best because of their Byakugan and over time, that has become their specialty. And so the need for ninjutsu is less and less in their fighting style.

I reckon they could learn, it is just that the Hyuugas are tai-jutsu priority.

They are capable, however their clan techs almost make up for it (unless you go against haax enemies...but then again who wouldn't be).

For example. No regular Jutsu has been able to penetrate rotation (the Mokuton spikes were on an impossible scale)
Air palm also is almost akin to a Wind style Jutsu.
Twin Lion Fist almost looks similar to a fire style Jutsu (thoufh just chakra)

If they added elemental chakra, such as lightning or wind,to their eight trigrams style then they could potentially fry or slice a ninja's tenketsus rather than just close them.

I don't see why the Hyuga couldn't use ninjutsu - but I could see why their family would believe their arts to be vastly superior to 'run of the mill' ninjutsu. This would develop a sort of stigma (we saw Hiashi being quite... well - he was a ****ing ass-hole back in part 1, no reason to use fancy language for it).

As far as requirements for Jonin - it's possible the family has an agreement with the appropriate authorities. The Hyuuga's skills are widely known and renowned, and it's stated that they are among the strongest clans in the Hidden Leaf. It's quite possible that the Hyuuga are not required to demonstrate proficiency outside of the Byakugan's abilities.

Yay politics.
