Yeah pretty much this. The Akito movies are carrying on the Geass mantle, though only one is out and nothing really happened so it's too early to say. Sadly, the next one comes out in summer and even longer to actually be subbed so who knows when we'll see the rest.

Personally I don't think there should be a season 3, at least as a conventional sequel. Geass's ending was utterly perfect and nothing could possibly top what was already established. The only things that work for me are like those picture dramas they have, because it's not about another story carrying on but about some side-story epilogue sorta things that are more like nods to the series fans than anything else.

The reason I have high hopes for Akito is that it's a spin-off between the seasons, so it's quality wouldn't REALLY affect Geass as a whole.

R3 would ruin the close-to-perfect ending of R2

Let us keep debating is Lelouch is dead or not, we don't need an answer, thats for us to decide.

Yeah there really shouldn't be a sequel as far as I'm concerned. It ended the way it should and that's just how it is.

As for Lelouch's status at the end, I can't see it any other way but him being dead. In my opinion, him remaining alive would ruin the theme of the ending. The reason I love Lelouch so much is BECAUSE he took the fall for the sake of world peace, if he pussied out and just survived like in some Shounen story it would really kill my image of the glorious sacrifice he made. Not to mention there's pretty much no way Lelouch could have gotten the Code, or C.C. wouldn't be hanging around by the end.
