I just want to clear something up...
As you all know (or we have all come to an understanding)... through Edo Tensei, one would come back in their prime, as shown with Madara (extremely old when he died)
^here we can see the Previous Hokages in their supposed prime...
Now Kishi may have forgot, or this may be fact, that Hiruzen's Prime isn't when he's younger...
(since we're all just assuming say for example to back hiruzen in arguements one would say "Hiruzen would be much more powerful in his prime)
Hiruzen may have acquired his titles in his late age when he had time to earn it while Minato was in charge, example; "The Professor" because he Knew all jutsu in konoha.
I believe Hiruzen's true prime is in his old age where he had the time to research and acquire his knowledge and skills, but at a late time, and didn't have the youth to use it as much...
Chiyo is another example through her exprience she was brought back at that age instead of a much younger age where she could of had better stamina but lack in knowledge her older self would have...
in conclusion (to me) when the word "prime" is mentioned, one shouldn't assume it means their earlier age which would endure longer in fights, Hiruzen in his old age (probably abit younger) would beat his younger self because he has more knowledge and skills, that his younger self would lack...
