Not really the same thing. Kushina and Mikoto are both adults and probably similar age. Itachi was like 5, and Minato was in his twenties. xD

If anything, the friendship would have been between the fathers.

Yep I believe itachi would have looked up to minato as minato was hokage when itachi was a boy, itachi did say minato was a great hokage to naruto.
