NOTE this thread pretty much can apply to any type of fans on the base as well as their respective fanboys. I chose the Uchiha because they seem to be tied at the top with the collection of Minato fans on this site (as seen by the constant war between the two on many threads). And also because I feel that this particular group has suffered the most with regards to their fanbase.
Now onto my topic of the Uchiha, most notably Itachi and Sasuke. There was a time back in the day where a lot of people had some level of liking or respect for these two characters. Itachi with his calm personality and great tactics, and Sasuke for the same approach (I still believe that the best version of Sasuke is Hebi Sasuke but that's just my opinion). Naturally, the popularity of these characters are reflected in their fanbase. It is a fact that the manga sales naturally increase whenever these two characters get exposure, and I have absolutely no problem with this as I've always liked these two. Over time, the Itachi/Sasuke fans increased, but then there was a separate group of fanboys who took it slightly further. And of course, as long as the fanboys increase, so do the 'haters' to counter it.
The problem is this. People who are normal fans, but may not have Itachi or Sasuke as their favourite, get put off and turn into 'haters' because they can't stand the fanboys and their constant worship, forgetting that there are still some decent fans out there that don't go over the top. Also, for the people who don't have Itachi/Sasuke as their favourites, it becomes increasingly difficult to take a step back and remember what the two characters did in the past which made them so likeable in the first place, because the only view that you see is the "Lord Sasuke" or "Itachi is God" image that is projected all the time. But the normal fans aren't the only ones who get put off. The standard, typical Itachi/Sasuke fan suffers as a result because their main image is projected as a group of "Silly, illogical fanboys who worship the Uchiha to no end", despite just being chilled out fans who actually debate well.
Now I don't hate Itachi or Sasuke, and I don't hate their fanbase either. But i've noticed that the normal fans don't actually get as much as a second chance on debates because of the pre-determined image that has been set up from their fanboys, so they themselves get dubbed as fanboys instantly, which of course isn't fair at all.
So my question is, to the everyday standard Itachi/Sasuke fan, do you like your fanboys? Do they help to promote your character well, or do they tarnish their image and give your character a bad name?
Peace xd
