Danzo wanted him to believe that there was no way of stopping the coup. He even snatched Shisui's eye out when he offered to handle it with KA, which would have been another peaceful solution.

Shisui worked for Danzo in Root. That is what the short sword on his back symbolises, that he is a member of Root. Look it up, every Root member has one and no one else has the same type of short sword except those of Root.

Fact 2: Hiruzen didn't wanted to kill off all the Uchiha's, he asked Itachi to buy him time so that he could think of a strategy to solve this mess.

Fact 3: Danzo went behind Hiruzen back and manipulated a 13 year old Itachi. He used Itachi's love for Sasuke and persuade him to kill his family. Even Itachi noticed what Danzo was doing, hence the question ''Are you threatening?''

Notice the statures on the back ground when Itachi gets his options, one of them looks evil the other looks peacefull, the evil one presents the killing of the Uchiha. In the end Itachi walks towards the evil looking stature. I wonder what that means lol

All in all it's save to conclude that Danzo had a big hand in the killing of the Uchiha's, the question is how big? and was it really for the greater good?

See this is where we have a big mix up of Danzo
He died a pathetic death yes, I agree because he chose power for peace. Comes to show you it is the wrong path

Danzo was not only trying to protect konoha, but he was trying to unite the shinobi world his way. A bad way to go around it, but nonetheless to unite them.
This is where Danzo would use a lot of sacrifices in order to gain more power, so that he could unite shinobi world "his way"

Thank god he died though, his way was wrong. Hiruzens was right. Thats why he never caught up to Hiruzen
