Please.....we saw the flashback of the night Itachi was manipulated by Danzo through Itachi's own eyes not Tobi's words. And no where did it say, that Hiruzen had tried and failed. It seemed like Danzo was hastening things for an alterier motive by going behind Hiruzen's back that night.

You clearly can't interpret words on a page unless they serve your own purpose......Danzo says:

"Whether a war happens or not!!"

That^ means EVEN IF Hiruzen manages to stop the coup and the Uchiha, Danzo, by his own judgement, has deemed the Uchiha Clan as traitors and that they are fated for annihilation.

Keep in mind, that is what Danzo wants Itachi to think, but that is not what Hiruzen, the Hokage, will decide.

Danzo knows Hiruzen will go for the peaceful solution, and at this point, Danzo will say whatever it takes to put Itachi at the point of no return in his mind, and carry out the annihilation himself, by using Sasuke's life as a bribe.

Also keep in mind, Itachi wasnt even a teenager then, and he regrets making that decision, realising it as a mistake. Itachi was manipulated.

No, he is talking about the war between the Uchiha and Konoha. "Now that a coup has happened" means, 'Now that the Uchiha have contemplated rebellion and betrayal'. Then he goes on to talk about the Uchiha's and Sasuke's annihilation in said war.

Do you see the short sword on Shisui's back? That is something carried only by members of Root! Danzo's private army, all Ninja's in Root are loyal only to Danzo and trust his every word.

Danzo wanted him to believe that there was no way of stopping the coup. He even snatched Shisui's eye out when he offered to handle it with KA, which would have been another peaceful solution.
