We know that Yang is portrayed as an energy, governing vitality and growth ([B]Yōton: Shussan no Jutsu[/B]). It has been noted to 'burn away' chakra as a hot fiery imagery ([B]Yoton: Byako[/B]). Ice release is typically made from Water and Wind natures combined but also see Water take energy form in the Storm Release as well as a gas with Boil release allowing it to take multiple forms. Combining with fuinjutsu, Winter Flame is a form of fire that freezes chakra on contact, using opposing chakra as a source to 'grow' the technique. [B]How it works:[/B] Experimenting around, Frieren looked to find a way to create a new form of fire, one that would not burn from heat but go in the opposite direction, cooling and freezing what ever it touched. Knowing water to be a crucial component to be part of the freezing, she then looked at tuning her Yang energy taking its ability to become energy in the world combined. However original trials yielded little result giving just a blue flame that burnt everything to ash and nothingness. Plain fire requires 3 key components, Fuel (chakra), Heat (water manipulation) and oxygen (Yang). The 4th component however to keep a fire sustained is a chemical chain reaction (fuinjutsu), which is to say, what ever it burns which creates an exothermic self-sustaining reaction that feeds more heat back into the fuel, keeping the combustion cycle going. The key to Winter Flame is the combination of the three components, Water as a source for temperature control, Yang as a form and vitality, and advanced fuinjutsu to consume incoming chakra to freeze techniques. Water Release provides the foundation for the technique's ability to produce freezing temperatures and crystalline structures. When opposing chakra comes into contact with Winters Flame, it will 'burn' the chakra, however instead of burning to ash Winters Flame will instead use it as fuel to continue. This reaction causes a crystallization of what ever it comes in contact with. Should it touch lightning, then a pure crystalized form of that, should it touch earth, then a frozen boulder in what ever shape it was in. Yang chakra gives Winter Flame its visible, flame-like manifestation and provides the physical energy necessary to sustain its form. Much as Storm Release produces energy that behaves like flowing water, Winter Flame manifests as an unusual energy phenomenon rather than ordinary liquid water or conventional fire. Combined with Yang nature to cause growth, this helps when infused with fuinjutsu. Fuinjutsu establishes the mechanism that allows Winter Flame to consume the chakra sustaining an opposing technique. When the flame comes into contact with a chakra-based technique, its sealing properties begin to consume the chakra maintaining that technique's form. Water, Yang and fuinjutsu combined allows Winters Flame to imbalance techniques when clashing, causing opposing techniques to lose form. This is caused by the sealing properties of Winters Flame to allow it to consume the chakra within the opposing technique, 'burning' (freezing) the opposing technique. The weakness of this however is Senjutsu, as natural energy is continually absorbed or leaked through senjutsu techniques, imbalanced and cannot be crystalized fully. Winters Flame, through its fuinjutsu properties gives it the abilities whether through clashes of energy or solid matter, consume the chakra within opposing techniques not native to the original chakra causing the technique to grow. This specifically causes the technique of Winters Flame, to grow larger per amount of chakra consumed from an opposing technique. For every 10 chakra consumed by an opposing technique, the original technique of Winters Flame grows proportionally 2 meters larger. This does not increase its damage, nor chakra amount, but allows the technique itself, much like how water expands when freezing, to become bigger than it is. What this means in terms of interactions with other elemental releases and other chakra techniques, is that Winters Flame will cause all non solid (energy) techniques to crystalize with no chakra as it grows from its chakra, while solid techniques are crystalized leaving them still solid with no chakra. All crystalized techniques remain without chakra and cannot be interacted with in any way.
