Combining natures into a new element is established in the manga through Lava Release (Fire + Earth), Boil Release (Fire + Water), Storm Release (Water + Lightning) and Explosion Release (Earth + Lightning). Fuuinjutsu is established as the art of sealing objects, techniques and chakra. Tsunade's Strength of a Hundred Seal stores chakra for years and releases it on demand, which shows a seal can hold energy and give it back. Sasuke's Kirin draws on lightning that already exists in the environment, which shows that outside energy can power a technique. Barrier techniques that enclose a space, like the Sound Four's Four Violet Flames Formation, show that a technique can be contained inside a structure. Eclipse combines these. A Fuuinjutsu structure borrows heat and electrical energy, seals it into solid chakra matter, and uses that matter as a container or a wall. [B]How it works:[/B] Eclipse Release has almost no power of its own. It runs on Flux, which is heat and electrical energy that the user's Fuuinjutsu structure borrows and seals. Flux comes from three places: the user's own Fire and Lightning chakra, ambient fire and lightning in the area (flames, sparks, storms, explosions), and energy absorbed from incoming techniques (explained in Lunar Form). With no Flux, Eclipse does very little. The sealed energy takes the form of Eclipse matter, a dense, dark substance, partially solid and partially plasma, that the user can shape into anything. It has two forms, named after the two kinds of eclipse, and the glow on each shows how much Flux it holds, so the opponent can read it and counter it. [B]Solar Form (Container):[/B] At the same time as using another technique, the user wraps it in a shell of Eclipse matter. The shell looks like a bigger black version of the technique, ringed by a white-gold corona like a solar eclipse. The corona brightens as Flux builds. The technique is already moving toward the target, and inside the shell it constantly bounces off the walls like a ball thrown inside a metal box. The shell is what travels and hits. The technique inside is what bounces. Each bounce draws Flux from the walls and adds speed and energy to the technique. How much it adds depends on how far the technique travels: x1.25 damage at short range, x1.5 at mid range and x2 at long range. When the shell hits the target, it breaks with a bright flare like a diamond ring, and everything built up inside releases at once. If an opposing energy-based technique collides with the shell, the shell breaks from the overload of Flux. It disperses the incoming technique's energy and the gathered Flux, but the technique inside may continue forward with its original damage. Against matter-based techniques, the shell simply breaks and the stored Flux is lost. A highly charged shell (noticeable by the corona) that breaks near an opponent (short-range) can blind them temporarily. How much Flux it gathers depends on how far the technique has traveled. Short range gathers enough to blind for 1 turn, mid range for 2 turns, and long range for 3 turns. [B]Lunar Form (Wall):[/B] The user creates a construct of Eclipse matter. It looks dark and dull with a faint copper-red glow, like a moon during a lunar eclipse. When an energy-based technique touches it, the Fuuinjutsu absorbs the impact and seals the energy as Flux, and the red glow deepens with the Flux it holds. On the user's next move, that Flux can be released as an attack, with a bonus paid from stored Flux. If an incoming technique has a higher rank or damage than the construct, it breaks through. The energy that was being sealed is too much and disperses as the construct breaks, which halves the damage that remains, though it can't reduce it below 5. If less than 5 remains, it is unchanged. [I]For example, a 100-damage projectile hits an 80-damage construct. Normally the user would take 20, but the dispersal halves it, so they take 10. A 200-damage technique leaves 120, which is halved to 60.[/I] Energy-based techniques are those whose damage comes from heat, electricity, light or vibration, such as Fire, Lightning, Sound and similar elements. Sound that acts as a shockwave is physical and is excluded, which also covers Wind. Matter-based and physical techniques (earth, rock, crystal, water, wood, metal, shockwaves, wind) are not absorbed. They hit the construct as a normal wall and damage it normally. Raw chakra or equivalent, is considered energy and as such falls under the same rules as energy based techniques. Note: S-rank usage is limited to three times per battle. A technique of a higher rank than the wall breaks through, but has its energy dispersed.
