It is heavily based on both the Deathnote Forum Games and “Blood on the Clocktower '', crossed with the Naruto/RP’s Theme to create a more relatable game. Players are arranged in a circle with neighbours being on either side of them, and the game is split into two different phases; night & day.

Each player has a role to play, there are four types of role in this game: Village-folk, Outsiders, Villains & Minions. A Majority of the time Village-folk and Outsiders are of a “Good” Alignment and Villains & Minions are of an “Evil” Alignment and it is up to Good to weed out and execute the Bad, more specifically the Villain. Once the Villain is killed in most scripts of Blood on the Kage Mansion, the game ends and Good wins. If the Villain survives as one of the last three players after the day ends, Evil Wins. Though there are other win or loss conditions in some cases, pertaining to the role of villains or outsiders.

The Storyteller

The Storyteller is essentially the Player who runs the game. They will declare each of the phases, give out the relevant information and also oversee nominations and voting and will basically run the game. It is up to the Storyteller to make judgements outside of the players’ controls, for example it is usually not up to chance on what information or status effects befall a player due to their role in cases like the “Illusionist” or “Sannin”. The Storyteller does not use this power to break roles’ abilities to become more powerful if one side has got an edge over the other; it is only meant to serve to keep the game interesting and to sow doubt. The Storyteller still follows the rules of the roles as best they can, only slightly aiding one side if they deem it necessary to improve the value of the game and the chances. Not to a degree where they add in completely new mechanics or roles that don’t exist on the script or even switch someone’s role or alignment if it’s not possible from what is provided.

The Script

This is essentially the Role Lineup for the game. Not every role is featured in a Script, meaning that this eliminates some possibilities and allows the players to more accurately figure out what villain they’re up against and vice versa. The Script also allows people to bluff more accurately and more carefully, without just picking one of the many roles that exist. A Script is always known to the players before the game starts, anything could turn up in the game if it is on the Script only.

Night Phase.

The game starts on Night One. The Villain will be given their Three Bluffs and told who their Minion is, the Minion will be told who the Villain is. No deaths occur on the first night. Most Village-folk, outsiders and Minions with roles that activate at night are approached in the night by the Storyteller and will be given information or asked to use their role (or not in some cases).

Night Two, Onwards: After the first night & day, the deaths begin. The Villain can kill each night and recurring role abilities that trigger at night are activated as usual. These happen in a specific efficient order including on night one (roles are numbered on the script, those with 1 are first to wake in the night etc). This means that if the Villain kills someone who goes after them at night, they won’t get to use their ability.

Day Phase.

The Players will awaken to the Day Phase, the Storyteller will tell the players who died during the night…. If any deaths did occur. The Day Phase allows for open discussion amongst players and eventually nominations, this is when players can be executed. Discussion is heavily advised as it will be the only real way to deduce who is who and what roles are interfering with what. You can discuss privately between players or groups of them and that’s fine.

Since we will most probably be playing the Forum version of this, it’s going to be impossible for us to stop discussion during the Night Phase - though we definitely advise against it as that is when the roles are acting and things will change. Although open and private discussion is advised, too much of it with the wrong player may muddy the water; just like how not enough of it will leave you wandering the fog alone.

Nominations

Once nominations are declared “open” by the Storyteller, Each living player has one nomination each day. Players do not HAVE to nominate, but once they do they cannot again on that Day - they can the next day. Players who nominate can offer a “prosecution” on why they have nominated and then the person nominated will be asked to defend themselves; players may discuss for a bit before the Storyteller asks for Votes to be cast.

Voting

After a player is nominated, given their defence and after a short discussion maybe the Storyteller will ask for votes. It requires at least half (rounded up) of the votes to put the nominated player “on the block”. This doesn’t necessarily mean they will be executed however, another nomination can be put through and if the number of votes exceeds that then they will now be “on the block”.

Once an execution occurs the day immediately ends. A Day may end with no executions occurring. A Dead player can be nominated to die.

Voting works in an order, because players are arranged in a certain order (like they're in a circle). The voting goes one at a time, starting with the player to the right of the nominee and continues clockwise until it gets back to the nominee who can indeed vote for themselves. Because it is done in this way, the players (both good and evil) can vote tactically - for example in the case of a tie no one is executed and the day ends.

Dead Players

Even after being Killed or Executed, Dead players are allowed to discuss the game and play. They cannot nominate, gain more information or do anything relating to their role (unless their role works beyond the grave). They only have one “Ghost Vote” and once used, it cannot be cashed in again.

Just because they are dead however, doesn’t mean they can be trusted. Their role won’t be revealed and they can still sow doubt.

Status Effects

Captured: Being captured means your ability does not work, whether it is only at night or during the day (or even over a number of nights) is determined by the role that applies the status effect. If your role pertains to gaining information of some kind, you will possibly be given false information by the storyteller.

Poisoned: This is essentially the Evil version of Captured, even though you can be captured by either alignment - you can only be Poisoned by the Evil team (There are very rare exceptions).

Protected: When you are protected, it means you cannot die.

Gameplay

This game can be played in a number of ways. Because this will most-likely be done through the Forum it will be played over a number of days; Day lasting for 24 hours and then night lasting until all roles that activate during it have done their ability (or chose not to).

Alternatively: this can be played through discord OR even in person and will last a couple hours or more instead of over days.

Day and Night last however long the Storyteller deems necessary.

Roles

Village-folk make up the majority of the Players most of the time and are of “good” alignment, they have roles that benefit the Village in one way or another, though some do have stronger roles than others. Village-folk must try to figure each other out and work to vote to execute the Villain.

Outsiders are a minimal number of players, depending on the player count there could be one or two outsiders, or sometimes even more if there is an ability that adds to the outsider count. Outsiders are of “Good” Alignment and are also working to vote out and execute the Villain, though their role is usually detrimental to the Village.

Minions are of “Evil” alignment and work with the Villain, they sometimes have active abilities and safety nets - but their main role is to sow doubt amongst the Village-folk and bluff their way to push the narrative elsewhere.

Villains are the leaders of “Evil” and are what determines the outcome of the game. The Villain usually kills every night after the first one and if he is not discovered and executed, he will win. Villains will learn who their Minions are and will have three bluffs given to them by the Storyteller, these bluffs are roles that are not taken by other players in the game and a safe chance for the Villain to possibly remain alive for a few days.

Villain Bluffs: The Villain is given three Bluffs, which can be Towns-folk or Outsiders. These Bluffs aren’t currently in play during the game, it doesn’t stop others from bluffing as these roles either though. Villain minions do not know the Bluffs, so need to communicate with each other to discover said bluffs.

Cheating

It is pretty hard to cheat at a social deduction game like this, anyone could be lying no matter how much they claim to be something. However blatant cheating like showing screenshots that entirely confirm your role beyond doubt is classed as cheating and you will be disqualified and never allowed to participate again. However, even the screenshots shown to you can be edited falsely.

Gameplay Tips

Three-for-three: When discussing roles, provide three of who you might be to each other. A Common tactic to give someone an idea of who you are whilst also not giving it away entirely. Helps to keep yourself at ease if you are a Village-folk and also the person your talking to, but it is a gamble.

Hard-claiming: Just straight up claiming what your role is to someone, it's a very big gamble to do this and if you are a powerful role it will put a target on your back. If you Hard-claim, you are more than likely going to have to keep up the claim you've made throughout the session - unless you have something up your sleeve.

Don’t be afraid to die, especially if you’re good! During execution it's not always best not to kill anyone, death is information. Especially on the first couple of days its not too much of a risk to off village-folk. If your role is a one and done or once per game thing, then being the one on the block is not always a bad thing. Don't forget, if you die it doesn't take you out of the deductions and discussion parts, you still get to participate.

Rules Clarification: During a game you can ask the Storyteller for a chat as well to ask about the mechanics of the game (certain scenarios, how a role works), just in case they are unsure. That is fine.

[/QUOTE]
